Being lied to can bring about mistrust by YOU in the future of anyone telling you thier sad tales of life, whether true or not. It can harden your heart to the misery of others who are TRULYdeserving of your love and trust. A lie not only harms the liar but can cause harm FAR beyond the ones that the lie was told to. A wel;l placed lie, whether intentional or not, can cause harm to folks to had nothing whatsoever to do with that particular lie or situation.

That can range from not harmful at all - glossing over your dislike of your friends new hat because it would only lead to hurt feelings, over a hat - to really harmful if you come to believe the lie is the truth, and it pertains to something important.

How harmful can the truth be?
A girl comes running round the corner. She is weeping and her clothes are torn. She runs off down an alley.
A couple of moments later three young men come running along, swearing about how they'll 'murder the *****'. They ask you, "Which way did she go?"
What do you do? Tell a lie or tell the truth?
It is always good to be mindful when we speak.

Depends on your opinion about the holocaust.
My mom was orphaned in the "ethnic cleansing" of Europe's Jews by Nazi Germany, when her parents (my grandparents) were robbed, stripped, and murdered. I thank G_d mom escaped to safety, here in Canada.
Every evil is facilitated by lies! Even rape.
I could have said "It depends on your opinion about the war in Iraq", but my wife is American, and her whole family is republican, so I won't use that example.
Suicide airplane hijackers have to become liars first, in order to unleash their terror and murders on america!
It is funny that lies get islamics into their version of heaven. I expect those terrorists go to a an eternity without God, just like the murderers in Canada & the USA.
There is no question that lies can be monsterously large. But are there innocent "white lies".
My wife says no lie is OK, but I could talk you ear off about good lies...
"Do I look OK?" (as er are leaving for church)...Yes Dear!
"Do you still find me sexy" (as you do it daydreaming of what she used to look like)...Yes Dear!
"Do you think everything will be alright" (As you walk through a poor neighbourhood when your car broke down looking for the freeway)...Yes Dear!
I wear the pants in my family! I get the last word! Always, no matter what she says, I get the LAST word..."Yes Dear!"

It depends on the crime AND the person.
If a person we love lies to us, then it can be very harmful, especially if it is a major lie.
If the President of the USA lies about WMD in Iraq, it can be very harmful because many people can lose their lives.

the problem with lies is that they tend to take on a life of their own and once you begin to lie it can become a really bad habit and very destructive too
sadly it can get to a point where people can even begin to believe their own lies even if they get caught out they will still defend by using lies

A lie engenders mistrust. A lie can cause emotional dis-ease, which can fester and translate into physical dis-ease. A lie can invalidly alter one's perception of Source.
A lie is dis-ease in the making.
A lie is not of God.
