it's for a science fair project. please help.
I have heard to make a ramp and put balls down it and see which one rolls farthest but I don't want to do that. It's not bery accurate. I have also heard to test many people and average the distances (Where can I do that at??)

Since golf balls are built for use in the game, you'd have to test with golf situation, not rolling off a board.

To test you'd have to simulate or replicate golf situation, say teeing off. You'd need a large field and multiple participants ranging from excellent golfers to duffers who would willingly hit a large volume of golf balls, say for example 50-100. You'd have to measure the balls and then do statistical analysis, not just averages.

Of course is that with a driver or various other clubs. (stick to one club). What about golfer fatigue, wind, etc. Golf ball science is complicated, you might have to research thru various publications to see how dimple pattern, materials and internal design has changed over the decades.

To eliminate the variables, the golf industry uses "Iron Byron" (names after Byron Nelson) a mechanical swing device that replicates the human golf swing. It does not tire, each swing is exactly the same as the previous.

Might I offer an alternative idea? Today you have many choices in golf ball types. Some are better suited to the scratch golfer, the stronger golfer, etc. (talk to a golf pro and do your research) So select a golfer, probably average would be best, and then have him/her hit the various type balls and measure distance and accuracy. Do this several different times as a golfer will perform differently each day. Your hypothesis could be something like the average golfer will (or will not) benefit his/her hitting and accuracy level by using the (pro-type) golf ball.
