I would like to separate the DE out and water the yard with the rest. There is not currently a connection to the sewer so I have been draining it down the street. Its an in ground 12,000gal pool with skimmer and bottom drain and large DE filter

I have watered the side yard but it starts to get a buildup of DE leaving the soil white (or green!) which is why I would like to filter it out somehow. Pool is 30yrs old and grandfathered in to be legal to dump in the street but I would like to put the 300gal to better use. I've never drained the pool and keep the chlorine level low

Sounds like you're describing my pool, and I agree with the others: we water our yard with it and haven't killed anything yet!

Certainly answer number one has a clue. I've owned pool homes for more than 30 years and your question; with regard to RE cycle; largely depends on the residual chemicals in the water; not the DE.

Without knowing at all where you are or regulations regarding waste in the streets; you might want to know?

I always drained mine to the yard; and without negative effect. Obviously Back Flushing might flood the YARD as absorbtion isn't always INSTANT; and certainly after a week of rain; any backflush might remain for a time. I'm wondering though; how long you back flush; or might this be a total drain out at times?

might ask your neighbors if they need some yards watered also no need to waist it down the road way.
