I celebrate Christmas with my family. Presents really don't take long to open, food doesn't take long to eat. But spending a whole day goofing off with the kids and the rest of the family ONLY happens at Christmas. It's the only time we're all together. That to me is celebrating Christmas for the real reason.

I love Christmas but only for the children. Seeing their faces on Christmas morning outweighs all the expenses that have gone into it. Yes I do think it has become too commercialised though. It's not the same as it was when I was younger. I think only children should have presents though. Unless you don't have any and are just in a relationship then I suppose no one is going to mind, it's a private and personal opinion.

Im sure some people still celebrate Christmas for the birth of Jesus (even though he wasnt actually born on the 25th of december).

However, I believe most people are in it for the presents, the family gatherings and the dinner, but whats wrong with that? It brings people closer together, even if it is just for 1 day.

Great now im excited about christmas!!!!!!!! ill need to start my xmas shopping soon, lol

The truth is the real reason behind christmas has nothing to do with a Jew named Y'suha (Jesus).
You will find nothing in the Bible about christmas since Messiah is a Hebrew He nor His disciples celebrated christmas.

It is defintaly too commercialised in the uk the cards/garlands and presents i bet are out now and it is only October. The children just want the presents and they don't seem to realise what it is all about. Which really is a shame. The only thing good about Christmas in the uk is that i think that people remember the poor and homeless a bit more and give to charity which is a good thing.

My family does. We try to not make it too commercial, we go to midnight service at our long time church back home, and we read the nativity story each Christmas Eve to remind us of why we are celebrating. I wish stores would get off their high horses and quit monopolizing Christmas like they are. I know when and if I have kids I will continue the same traditions that my parents started with me.

We don't go all out at Christmas and spend loads of money, for the last 4 years we have gone to my sister in laws home and spent the holiday with my hubby's family, we just have dinner, watch TV etc, nothing amazing, and there is certainly nothing religious about our holiday, we just want to relax and enjoy time away from work.

The Romans had a midwinter festival that started with Saturnalia (eating, drinking and getting bombed) and finished with Sol's birthday (presents, being nice to your relatives and getting bombed). Then in 321AD the state religion changed to Christianity and they had to invent Christmas. Western Christians see it as a time to celebrate the gift of Christ, but we need to remember that the pagan festival of greed and overindulgence came first.
