1) stalling --engine dies when you step on gas

2) slipping - engine revs up, but car won't move or moves slowly

Stalling means the engine is shutting down due to some kind of mechanical failure.

Slipping means the transmission gears are slipping when you push on the gas.

Stalling is when the engine is not getting the Air/Fuel mix it needs and or not getting the enough power from your distributer cause it to die.

Slipping is either your clutch slipping when under power, or its your transmission gears are worn.
