got in to a fight 6 weeks ago and the police asked me to go to statnon 2mo. The guy i had a fight with was my sisters ex husband. He was from pakistan and immigrant. My sister called him over and when he came to england he wasnt intrested in my sister but more intrested in going after other girls. The marriage broke down and my dad was a very nice guy he didnt want to send my sisters ex husband back because his family back in pakistan were poor. so my dad thought good for him but even though he turned out to be bad. Once he got his visa in the Uk he started threatning my family including my sisters and my elderly mother. He was making abusive phone calls to my house in the middle of the nite, and when he saw any of my family on the street he abused them. But 6 weeks ago he abused me, and he grabbed hold of me and wont let me go so i totally knocked him out clean, i wanted to teach him a lesson. what could i say to the police am scared ? if i go to cout it will affect my career

I wouldnt worry this guy sounds like a jerk!

You will proberly get a slap/caution rather than have to go to court. Please note though:

You need to tell the police exactly what has been happening and that includes how scared of this person you are, as that will go in your favour, and what has been going on and let them decide what to do with the full facts infront of them.

Bad situation your in. Go get a lawyer now. Fill him in on what led to the ruck. Ask his advice as to wether or not he thinks he should accompany you to see the Bill.
You need to stop this scum from harrasing you and your family. Ask your lawyer about getting a restraining order on the scum. Tape his abusive and threatening phone calls, it's easily done. Carry a camera with you, take photos of him if you see him threatening you or your family. Gather the names of any witnesses that may have seen the ruck or any of his past actions. Keep dates and times of when he causes trouble. Try to stay clear of any physical action with him, but you are allowed to defend yourself.
The scum will probably be more afraid of the cops than you are, so I really do not think you have too much to worry about, but you do need proper legal advice. Get it now.
Remember visas can be revoked Was this an arranged marriage?

Well, be prepared for sure, with your family and the dates of abuse, and what was said by both sides. Witnesses help. If the police find you acted in self defense you have no problem and probably can file charges against him for harassing you and your family. At least, that is how it is in the USA. But, be honest, and forthright and have your answers straight between all the family or witnesses. Shody answers will not set right in any light.

Well, if you have a witness that will confirm that he attacked you first then its a clear case of self defense. Nothing to worry about and you should also report the him to the authorities because he obviously only married your sister to gain entry to the country which is of course illegal.

take any evidence you have with you..eg phone records, texts, witness details etc and claim self defence..if theres a witness to back you up great but if there are no witnesess it is up to him to prove you hit him in malice and you to prove it was self defence. They may well just caution you if there is no evidence to support either side. dont tell them you wanted to teach him a lesson, just say you were terrifed as he had hold of you, was being threatening and abusive and you felt in danger.

I don't know the laws in the UK but it sounds like self defense to me, unless you kept on hitting after he was down. I think you do need a lawyer.
Good Luck

I think you should definitely consult a lawyer to ensure that your interests are properly protected, since in theory you could be facing a serious charge. Good luck.

Oh, dear God, you touched an immigrant. Don't you know they have more rights than natives? Where have you been living the last ten-fifteen years.
