I am a HUGE Red Sox fan, and although I am far from an expert I think I know my stuff pretty well. I am constantly running into men that assume that because I am a woman that I only like baseball for the "cute" guys!!! It iratates me so bad, a couple of weeks ago I was out for a drink and this looser in a red sox hat noticed I was watching the game and tried to talk to me about them and HE had no idea what he was talking about!

Get that all the time too. The percentage of female sports fans who are actually knowledgeable is pretty low. When I talk about sports, It doesn't usually take too long before guys figure out that I know my stuff. Generally, men love that, though. I find that they are open to hearing my opinions and don't find it off-putting at all.

Unfortunately, many of the women that use this forum ARE more interested in who the "hottest " players are. I personally have found women that are both very knowledgeable about sports, and many that aren't. Some men just can't get over stereotyping women as ignorant about certain things. I do think that there are probably more men that are truly intelligent baseball fans, but that is simply because men tend to put a greater importance then most women do on sports in general. However, I will say that I do see some very intelligent female baseball fans on here, but most of the questions I see from women do tend to be more of the "Is Derek Jeter hot?" variety.
As long as there are women like the one in the link below, some guys will treat all women as not being intelligent about the game. It's a shame, but why worry about the opinions of people who don't have the sense to realize that boneheads actually come in both the male and female varieties, as do truly intelligent people.

I have found that most women are there because some player is a stud or has a nice looking butt. Witness Grady's Ladies wearing Mrs. Sizemore t-shirts at Jacobs Field. While some women truly are knowledgeable there are also a lot of young shallow females with the Barbie doll mentality. That is not a slam, just an observation. Otherwise, why would the Indians market Mrs. Sizemore t-shirts if there were no demand? Back in the 90's when people thought the Indians had a dynasty in the making, women did not know half the team and had no idea that Mike Hargrove was the manager. They knew that Carlos Baerga looked hot, though.

Yes, there are still some men out there who assume that, and that's just sad. They're the ones not even worth our time. My fiance actually brags to his friends (and anyone else who will listen) that I actually love sports and know a lot about sports. Some guys actually find that quite attractive. And I've actually put a few guys in their place before with my knowledge.

Many more men than women love the game of baseball but I know a lot of women that are passionate about the game as well. The game of baseball is for men, women, and children to enjoy and that is why it is so great for families to enjoy together.

For anyone to assume anything is never good be it male or female.

A lot of men do have the assumption that most women don't follow baseball so they automatically assume they don't know much about something they have no interest in.

It's good to hear that you follow and know the game.

It's a guy thing.
I personally know one young lady with more knowledge than half those females you see on the sports channels. She has great insight on offense, defense and plays the quarterback should do on any given down.
With a little luck she could be on ESPN. Very knowledgeable.

Because they are stupid.

I just ignore the sexism. A few minutes of conversation and they usually know right away I'm not there to look at guy's butts. Not that the butts aren't an added attraction...

Sexism

there aren't that many cute guys in baseball, or at baseball games...I don't know why they'd assume you were there for that.

My husband isn't into activities, yet he loves aviation. If he ought to f&*^ his airplane, i'm particular he might. Drives me loopy and sometime he could get that probability together with his airplane if he retains it up.
