I take a limited amount of cash with me and I also take a personal check just in case I need more money. Most if not all of the casinos cash personal checks at their main casino cage. I believe the limit may be $5000 based on your account and whatever check service the casino uses. If you must take something other than a personal check or cash, traveler's checks would be the next best option. You can use those for your hotel stay and also cash them to gamble (very time consuming though).

i came from veges. Most places use credit card. if you take traveler's checks or money order you would have to buy the right amount for whatever you are buying. I suggest you just use the atm it more convenent and plus why would you go to the atm instead of just sliding your card at the store or whatever? if yo want to go to a casino, just do a cash back at the market. Don't think of vegas as a whole new world, it's just the same where you live but without state tax and many casinos.

Just watched a report on this that aired on the Travel Channel a few days ago. Take cash and Traveler's Checks. You could pay up to 20% to withdraw money from a local ATM. With proper ID, most casino cashiers will cash a personal check, too.

honestly, if you use the atm outside the casinos, you can get regular ATM fees. Also, if you hit Walmart, or a grocery store, you can buy a bottled water and then get cash back without a fee.
I wouldn't take money orders or traveler's checks. Too much risk of them being stolen, and money orders are bearer instruments, and traveler's checks are antiquated and subject to counterfeiting, so lots of places won't take them.
If you are thinking of gambling a lot, and plan to use 1 or 2 casinos primarily, look into setting up a marker where you settle up by check or debit card at the end of your stay. Basically a line of credit.

Take traveler's checks. That way if they get lost or stolen you can get them replaced. The casinos will cash them for you.
In response to rashirley's answer, I've never seen a Bank of America ATM on the Strip.

The hotel you are staying at most likely will cash them because you must have a credit card on file.
With so much fraud now, I have found that T.Checks or MO are getting hard to use.
Best bet for ATM use is get a Bank of America account.
There are several ATM for BOA with no fees on the strip and all around Vegas.

Take your plastic.
ATM fees are fixed rates, so the percentage of the fee will vary proportionally to the amount that is withdrawn.
If the fee is $5 and you withdraw $10, it's a pretty high fee.
If you withdraw $100, it's not so bad.
If you have traveller's checks and they get stolen, you can only recover your funds if you have followed their procedures to the "T", which is a hassle.
If your credit card gets stolen, you call your bank. In many cases, you won't be out any money. At worst, $50. Just call your bank as soon as you realize it has been stolen.

Money orders will be hard to cash. Too many fake ones out there.
Traveler's checks are good, you'll need id in order to cash them.
I use credit cards for everything except my gambling. I don't use ATM machines at all. The fees can be outrageous. I take a limited amount of cash for taxis and gambling. Very little
