Have you overcome bulimia? If so, I don't see where it would be a problem. For the most part the college admission essay is designed to see how well you write and is not really concerned with the material. But on the other hand, if you have overcome bulimia (for more than a year) then this shows your strength of character.
I would recommend that you describe what led to you becoming bulimic, how you felt during that time, and what finally led you out of it. I would close with a paragraph or two about how much better your life has been since you overcame bulimia. Mention how your grades may have improved, perhaps you are more outgoing, have more friends, and have a closer relationship with your mom. Those kinds of things are going to get you in without any trouble.
If it makes you feel a little better, I wrote about how I was involved in a hit and run because I was drinking at the age of 16 and didn't want to get caught. I wrote how I got caught, lost my license and how I have not had a single alcoholic beverage since that day. I got accepted to the only two colleges I applied to (which were the only ones I ever considered going to) and so I think your problem is not going to be anything to worry about.

I think it's a great topic and an issue which should be talked about and college is the best time to discuss it as it is during that age period that girls do this. If the Colleges feel responsibility, it should as its food on campus does not help students feel or look healthy.
But more so, because it is your "bump" in the road. Is this a topic you personally can relate to and have personal experience? If so, then it is a good topic because you can write from the heart.

Well, I think it is a great topic. Most essays are to be informative, say what you have learned and to educate others.! The more girls out there that know about it, maybe even some of the horrors, pain, stress that you went through the better their chances are that they will not do the same.
You can lead by example, teach and educate others. congrats on beating it! Remember, never go back, stay healthy and the more who know about your story, emotions, the feeling of shame maybe that you went through, the better? Make sure you include some facts/statistics- that you were one of them, the challenges of defeating the monster, etc. the better. I bet you will even get an A on it.
The school will not and does not look at essays as a "liabiliy".

Write about why you decided to go to college. Going to college is considered "good" in the minds of people and you will have a much easier chance of convincing them you are sincere. What you write will fit their world view and they are more likely to agree with you and give you a good grade. 1. Education of any kind is good. 2. Education makes you better able to deal with a modern world. 3. Education makes you better able to improve the world. If you write about how you decided not to have kids you will be "going against the grain" of a lot of people. Many will read the title of your topic and be turned off from the start. Many will read you paper and think you are not sincere as your reasons will not jib with their views. You will get a worse grade. Perhaps because your arguments will make them uncomfortable. 1. There are too many people on earth already and many of the problems the human race faces is due to over population. 2. A kid in the USA uses 22 times the resources of a kid in Africa so any kid you have will be doing 22 times the damage to the world. 3. There is more to life than making babies.

I think it's an excellent topic! First you should write what you know about and second write about something that will touch others! You have 2 for 2 ... I would start by writing about what happened to you...then go into what bulimia is and how it can affect many young adults. Best of luck to you!!!!!!

As one who was on the committee to read grad school essays, I would caution you about too much personal information. It can make the readers feel uncomfortable to learn too much about your private life. If you can find a way to put this in a general way without too many intimate details you might be able to get away with it. Are there any less major bumps in the road that you have dealt with that you could write about?

it is a potentially good topic - if you write it the correct way. colleges don't want to be depressed when they read your essay, or hear a sob story where you wallow in self - pity (not saying you have/will). if you write it creatively - from the heart - and show how you overcame it and how that shows who you are as a person, then it couldn't be a better topic.
