Everyone here at the college (well at least all my friends) are stressing out over everything. Yesterday one of them drove off because she just couldn't take it (she's back now and safe). Is this normal for people to get this stressed over college?

It probably isn't supposed to be, but the fact remains that it often is. One of the keys to handling college well is developing skills for dealing with stress - taking time to go to the gym regularly, regardless of what is going on around you, learning which music calms you down, etc. One thing I think a lot of colleges could do better is helping their students finding coping mechanisms.

It's funny, isn't it, that every movie you ever see about college fails to mention the actual college work, so that it looks like all students do is party all the time. People who never went to college assume it is one big party, and they laugh at the idea that students "can't handle" it.

College can definitely be stressful!
If anything, I say college prepares you best for stress which comes along with life. Specifically at work!
Think about you to have to balance so much school work with you everyday life...
You know that the stuff you are learning in statistics, you will not use on a daily basis. But the stress you are experiencing, you will face in the real world on a daily basis.

Yes, it can be extremely stressful. Just please do not get caught up in the drinking, drugs to alleviate. Find fun activities that you all can do as a group to relieve. Like a volleyball league, bowling- something, just to get your mind off of the tests, working, family, etc. So much on your plates to deal with, growing up and being out in the "real" world can be very scary- just remember to take time to have fun!

uh--- yes. Its preparing you for life. Life is stressful. It doesn't get any easier. When you get older their are bills to pay, children to tend to, full time jobs that are crazy. Then at home there are loads of clothes to wash, supper to cook, dishes to put away. Kids screaming and tugging at you. Then you have to get a 2 year old to go to bed(have you ever tried that---- geez when I took Organic chemistry it was easier that that). Life is just hard but you have to be strong enough to take it!
