okay so is this the equation?

x - (0.0145)x = 3974.92

okay we can rewrite x as 1 times x

(1)x - (0.0145)x = 3974.92

now we can take out a common x

x(1 - 0.0145) = 3974.92
x (0.9855) = 3974.92

then to get the x on its own, we divide both sides by 0.9855

x = (3974.92 / 0.9855)

using a calculator:

x = 4033.404363

I hope you mean x - .0145x = 3974.92

first factor out the x
x( 1 - .0145) = 3974.92

then do the work in parenthesis
.9855x = 3974.92

divide both sides by .9855 and you get x = ?
that's your answer

is the question, what is the value of x?wel..im kinda confuse if the first x is squared(raised to the 2nd power) or not..

if it is..it will be distributive...to get the value of x

If I read the question correctly, you have
x - 0.0145x = 3974.92
So, 0.9855 x = 3974.92
x = 4033.4043

x - (0.0145)x = 3974.92
1x - (0.0145)x = 3974.92
(1 - 0.0145)x = 3974.92
0.9855 x = 3974.92
x = 3974.92 / 0.9855
x = 4033.404363
