I disagree. This is a private board, hosted by a private company, with rules.
It is a place where children, as well as adults gather. Parents have a right to determine the sort of things that their children will read and they can't be expected to preview every question that their children read.
Parents may not agree with every answer shown here, but because rules are in place, they can have a small amount of faith that what a child reads is generally appropriate.
Too, there are still in this world people with manners. intelligence and vocabulary, who are able to effectively communicate acrimony without resorting to vulgarities.
That said, I don't believe that all swear words should be banned in all circumstances. I love the song "F***, Was I" by Jenny Owen Youngs. It's a great piece of music, using the F word, and I enjoy it very much.
It's just that I think that there are some places where civility ought to be prevalent. If parents wish a place to be safe for their children, it will likely be a place where civility reigns over vulgarities.

In my opinion, swearing shows that you have limited vocabulary and that you have no class. I disagree that they shouldn't hide swear words on here. There are kids on here who have either never heard the word or used it themselves. I know that there is an age limit on here, but there are kids that lie to get an account. There is no true way to prove age on the internet, therefore you get the accounts where some twelve year old has their age as 109 on here and on other sites like this.

I agree. With the amount of children on today's computers, they do not need to see all the swear words.
It is bad enough my brother's 5 year old is running around saying those swear words she saw on the computer.
I think that trying to keep some sort of decency, especially for our children's sake, is the best.
Some websites also have fan-created cartoons, and it's those cartoons that use the actual cursing words that makes the child learn the swear words.
I may sound like I don't know much, but come on, would you want to hear your toddler's first word come out as "**** *** " or "Mommy"?

Disagree. Swear words have no need to be in the general public. Just because you have a freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to infringe on my right to freedom of speech. Not that I am a prude because I curse now and again, but it all depends on situations. I find it offensive to even consider language such as curse words as adult. I think it is childish and immature verbage and has no place in mixed company.

I say lets have an automatic watershed , where swear words can be seen after a certain time and then they change back into stars and asterisks after the said ime is over , lets say on at 9:00pm and off at 5:00am

LOL Very pertinent question. I try to finagle my way around it by using terms that aren't swear words but still give some emphasis to denote frustration. But, I agree. I think people should just quit using them. There are ways to get around the **** words, and I'm sure you've seen some. I won't enable anyone who might not know by posting the ways here. But you'll know it when you see it.

I don't think the vocabulary improvement needs to start with swear words, but good point it's nieve to think that the younger crowd hasn't been exposed to it yet... but I guess they are trying to keep it more "family-friendly" (but have they not seen some of the questions on here?!)
Good point. No they should not star the words... I think.

Agreed. Swear words are part of the English vocabulary and should be freely displayed.

some language can be quite colorful
i wold just worry about all the young and otherwise mentally young folks on here who would be excessive about it as a means of entertainment
and also because there are words that people have no reason to be using
plus if you are not creative enough to find a way to say/spell/space what you mean to say then you probably arent creative enough to raise a point that i want to read about thru all the profanity

But children come on here. They don't want to hear a load of adults swearing and nor do I. I think we can all guess what these words are, but we need to protect the under 16's.
