A very good friend of mine has drafts. He has Belgians and Shires. He uses them to pull wagons, but my husband and I sometimes ride them for him. We ride them western. We have trail ridden many times. It's a lot of fun. Loping is kind of like going in slow motion compared to a standard sized horse!

I had a 2 Percherons I used to ride: The big white one I rode Western and the bay I just rode bareback because he got cranky with a saddle on.
I also used Tom Thumb bits on both, like I use with all my horses.

Good luck. Those gentle giants are a blast to ride! Get one up to a canter and you'll know what I mean.

I ride my draft ... Clydes/Morgan ... but not very much or very far. She's still young, and in training. I drive her all the way to town and back, though ...
