Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous. Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

My blood pressure is 90/56. My doctor hasn't said a word about it. My mom was the one who pointed out how low it was. This is ironic because I am a smoker... but anyway, you should call your doctor right away and ask why your blood pressure is so low. When I brought this up to my doctor, the response I got was, "Yeah, it's pretty low. Put some stress on your heart girl!"

"I already smoke."

"Oh. Well... you can't tell."

Hi...it's a tad low from what you SHOULD be ideally. When you stand up from sitting for a bit, do you get dizzy? I used to be on Parnate (MAOI) and I was 60/40. I would get to a doc or call his/her nurse and get an appt with your doc to find out WHY this is happening and what you should do about it. Could it be because of any new medications that you are taking? I'd definitely check this one out....if it's consistantly low, there may well be a problem and you need to address this issue...Take care and stay well.

Yes that is low. I have been in that position myself.

If you smoke then quit at this monemt and never smoke again. Yes smoking can do this. That is going to be heart failure if you do not do something about it.

See the doctor now.
