It's a pity that you're considering losing the grass you have but I do understand your problem.
If you were to choose gravel stones these now come in different & very colourful varieties.
But my choice would be for something more natural like bark. Under the bark lay some plastic matting which will kill all weeds.
And on top of the bark choose some containers either in wood or brown pots into which you can plant seasonal varieties. In this way you can have an everchanging & interesting display of colour in your front garden.
Low maintenance but high satisfaction!!

you can stop the weeds from coming up by putting plastic or mesh fabric down before you use the stone/bark. It depends on the look ur going for on deciding between the stone or bark- the color of you house, if you want it to blend in or pop out , the color of the stone, the breakdown of the bark etc. . You could use ground cover instead if you are in a place that snows a lot (or not). Then if you need to plow your drive ur not spreading rocks all over and it's hard to kill most ground cover even if you plow it over. Most ground cover never needs tending to, quite a few of them flower, and its good for the environment.
Hope this helps

Personally I like grass as it is like a frame around a picture. If you put down pea gravel or stones, yes they have rolls of something that prevents weeds from growing. Its a Weed Cloth, you roll it out and cut it to fit, water drains thru it. It lasts for years and years. If you decide to put in a plant or shrub the roots will go right thru the weed cloth. Something prevents the weeds from growing up thru the weed cloth.

Dig out to about 6" deep put 4inches of fine stones like pea shingle down, topped with 2inches of stones of your choice. I have a path like this and it takes a long long while for weeds to show, and then only a few which are easily removed. You can then use coloured tubs with evergreen palm type plants.
Remember not to have small pots for tropical looking plants. They will die.

first start by covering the whole area with land scape fabric ,maybe putting in a large ornamental grass in the center(they require little to no care) then cover the remaining area with either gravel, marble chip or even mulch to have an attractive and carefree garden

I wish i'd desire to locate the photograph of this, yet my ultimate chum became into those days married and she or he used pink/green for her floral preparations - she used tall glass vases crammed with granny smith apples, crowned with pink hydrangeas. They have been amazing.
