It all started when Clinton was in charge and the right started making waves and raised the hatred against those who supposedly "were anti American" by their ways and actions.
This feeling was exploited by the current government and exploded with 911 where Bush explicitly said "you are either with us or against us" I still believe that this mention was not meant only for the rest of the world but mostly for the American citizens as to separate the Conservatives and the Democrats. It worked like a charm and Bush and Co banked on it until last year when things really starting to change for him and his policy. As long as we will have division in the parties, as long as we will have division in the social classes we will have a lack of respect. My only hope is that the next president elected will work hard for the US here at home and for its citizens here at home ... we need to be once again a nation of one under one Flag united and equals.

This forum doesn't really lend itself to open and courteous discussion. It's too anonymous and people feel they can get away with a lot more than they can in public. It may be a great stress reliever for some, but you sure can't hang out in here much if you don't have a thick skin.

I hear you, friend. I came on here looking for debate and all I found was namecalling and insults.

I agree 100%. There are serious problems with both parties and pointing the finger at the other just helps them to cover up the problems that they have. We should quit playing into their game and demand true change. We need campaign finance reform, fiscal responsibility in Washington and a true leader. I don't see anyone who can accomplish this in any race.

Bashing? So what, whats wrong with a little competition? If someone is going to be the leader of this country but cant take a little smack talk in the primaries then I dont want them in the front office.

How can I as a thinking human being have respect for views that I am diametrically opposed to?

Why should I respect ideas that are just plain wrong?

Should I respect the idea that someone has that says 2+2=6?

It's not about party or person it's about ideas. We attack ideas, because ideas have consequences.

It's our winner-take-all political system, if we guaranteed the loser some power, then we would not be as divided as we are today.
