is there a registry or something where we can name a nameless star we locate? is it official..? anyone who's watched A Walk To Remember might know what im talking about..when Landon named a star after Jamie.

No. You can pay a company to give you a certificate saying they've named a star for you, but it has absolutely no scientific standing, and is basically a money-making scam. The only things named after people are craters on the Moon, and you have to either be dead or have landed on the Moon to qualify.

Sure you can. You can look up there and pick a star and say, "That one is mine. I'll call it Frank." You can even pay some outfits to make up a certificate to document the naming.

The problem is getting the rest of the universe to acknowledge your selection. THAT is the hard part.

Private companies that have no standing in the scientific community push this sort of thing. It's all to make them money.
