I was about to goto sleep last night, went downstairs got a drink and laid in bed, I started to feel something in the back of my throat, felt like phlegm. Went downstairs, tried to cough it up, force it up and be sick and nothing worked.

I finally got tired enough and fell asleep on the sofa, I wake up to find it still here and not budging! I feel as if i can aggrovate it up but i cant get it into my mouth to spit it out, just stays at the back of my throat! Ive tried drinking, eating hard foods, being sick & everything.

I keep clearing my throat, I can feel it come to the top and then I swallow as a reflex and feel it get stuck again... I need some help!

Before doing anything else, try soda pop, especially Root Beer, that ususally does the trick for me.

Stay away from milk and milk products while you have a cold. It makes the phlegm thick and rubbery and hard to get rid of. Drink lots of water and juices. I think you can help get it out of your throat if you eat some hot chicken soup with a bit of black pepper added. The phlegm may be coming from your sinus cavity and draining down the back of your throat. Try a nasal spray or antihistamine to dry it up. I hope you feel better soon.

thats happened to me. usually i drink something like tea to break it up or my dad always gave me ashot of whiskey. it melted away all the phlegm in my throat. although extreme and nasty in my opinion it worked for me.
