Most probable answer is the piston rings.

Blue smoke is from burning oil.

2 common sources. Bad piston rings allowing oil from the crankcase into the combustion chamber. A compression check will tell. Or it could be bad valve guide seas, allowing oil to leak past the valves into the combustion chamber.

The news is not good for either condition. Bad piston rings require an engine overhaul to repair. Bad valve guide seals require the cylinder head(s) to be overhauled.

Fuel mixture problems would be black smoke instead of blue smoke. White smoke would be cracked head or blown head gasket.

The engine will possibly be needing an overhaul soon. There is oil that is leaking into the pistons and is being burned during the combustion and is evident in the blue exhaust.

Excessive smoke from engines is a result of incomplete combustion of fuel in the combustion chambers. Excess diesel is routed to the diesel tank. The rings of the piston(s) are weak and need to be changed. Visit the workshop.

It means the engine may be worn and burning oil. If it's burning more than one quart of oil every 400 miles, then start looking for a junk yard replacement engine http://www.junkyarddog.com http://www.car-parts.com You can remove a couple of the spark plugs to compare their tips to the spark plug reading chart below to prove that the plugs are starting to show oil fouling. You can also do a compression or leak down test on each cylinder when you replace all the spark plugs.

why would you buy if it isnt mechanically sound? but since that mistake has already been made. the smoke is caused by something other than gas burning in your engine, most likely oil. check the oil level regularly (every time he fills up for gas).

burning oil...cause is usually bad rings and bad valve guides. try "miracle " engine repair in a can and thicker oil... 20/50 not 5/30 or 10/30

You are burning oil. You probably have head gaskets going out. Check your oil and it should be low.

Well either he is running 2 stroke gas - the carb is way to rick
Or the rings are shot.

I'm guessing rings

You need to change your oil, possibility the head gasket has blown.
