Inkheart/ Inkspell--Funke A Girl's dad can read out characters in books. This book is very good but the 2nd book is wayy better in my opinion.
The Bartimeous Trilogy--> This boy is only 11 but he goes past his yearsand summons a demon that he most likely can't control. This book is very good!!!

Okay, picking one book is an impossiblity for me. Here are a couple of my favorites, all different styles so you have a few to choose from.
Tami Hoag: Ashes to Ashes
This is a murder thriller. It is written mostly from the points of view of the lead detectives on the case, though there are a few chapters in the mind of the mysterious killer. Tamo Hoag hasa few books with these same main characters and they areall great. She has an idea for detail and usaully has a twist in the ending somewhere. This will keep you GLUED!!!
Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman: The Dragonlance chronicals. Dragons of Autumn Twilight, of Winter Night and of Spring Dawning.
These are excellent fantasy books! There are other series that follow but this is the best. It is your typical 'quest' story where the battle between good and evil rages. You really get inside the characters heads and their internal struggles.
Dragons of Deltora
Young adult fantasy series. Though it has been awhile sinse I've browsed the young adult section on a reular basis thiswas a fantastic read, The books are short and easy but are pretty action packed. I loved it.
Nora Roberts: The key of Light, of Knowledge and of Valor.
Another great series. This is about modern day women who are paid o go on a 'quest.' This is a little romance, alittle action and a little fantasy. Fantastic books! They got a pretty emotional response for me at the end of each book.
Hope this helps a little. i could keep going and going. I'm such a book nerd!! Is there any particular kind of story you prefer? If so, I could tell you some more in that area if I haven't listed it here.

"By The Rivers of Babylon"
by Nelson DeMille.
Jews on a peace mission to the U.N. from Jerusalem get their plane hijacked by an Arab terrorist and fight to survive. Packed with action, I love the way this reads and I read it over and over again. It is that good.
Alternative suggestions are "The Gold Coast" by Nelson DeMille, "Tai-Pan" by James Clavell (fictional foundation of Hong Kong by rival 19th Century shipping companies and pirates).
On the nonfiction side, I just finished "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell. He is the sole survivor of SEAL Team 10, which was ambushed by the Taliban in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan in 2005, and how he was rescued.

I have never been moved as much by a book as "A Prayer For Owen Meany". From the first line I was hooked. It took me several weeks to get over the book. Great story, great characters, great messages. John Irving's best by far. Not a book to read if you like quick easy reads. This is one to curl up with for awhile, but you will not regret it.

Well, there's the Bible lol.
And then there's the Sevenwaters trilogy, which is my favourite of all time. Especially the last one, Child of the Prophecy.
They're by Juliet Marillier. If you ever want a good read, they would definately be it!
