We have our 20week scan friday just wondered about whats the likely gender, my boyfriends parents could only have boys had several checks so know this for sure all of my boyfriends uncles only had sons but my boyfriends father does have some sisters so don't know how far back this problem goes. Just wondered if this could mean that we only have boys my boyfriends convinced were having a boy.

Child gender is determined by the sperm that fertilizes the egg.
So, it is therefor determined by the father. If there is a family history on the father's side of having mostly one sex, yes, there is a high likelihood that you will give birth to that sex. However, there are always a few sperm that carry female genetics, so it's not impossible to have the other sex... just not as likely!
I hope this helps :) [we're the opposite... expecting a girl because of my husband's family history!]

I don't really know what you're asking? We definitely can't tell you if it's a boy or girl, and there's always a 50/50 chance of boy or girl. Only way to tell is to wait and see on Friday. You can also get an amniocentesis if it means that much. It's not a "problem" to have boys... just happens to run in his family, but, you could have a girl too. You'll know Friday.

Well, thoretically it is random whether the baby will be male or female, depending upon whether the sperm that fertilizes the egg carries an X or Y chromosome.
In my family, we are male dominated for generations through paternal side:
GReat Grandfather 4 bros and 2 sis;
Grandfather 3 boys and a girl
Father 4 boys and a girl
My generation: 5 boys and two girls
next generation 10 boys and one girl plus one adopted girl.
Don't ask me why.

There is still possibility for you to have baby girl either, as if there is some recessive gene , that determines gender' is coming from your BF and you pass on same genes as well , it is likely to have baby girl as well.... however if he passes on dominant genes in combination and you either pass recessive or dominant it would be a boy.....
sometimes families keep getting dominant genes for generations , but Recessive would definitly be some where.....
Hope whether you get boy or girl is in good health and is blessing to you too....caz thats all it matters at the end.. Good Luck

The sex is determined by two things.....1) the sperm because it carries the X or Y sperm and will determine teh sex of your child....and 2) your cervical mucus. Sorry I know that sounds gross, but male sperm are faster but don't live as long....whereas female sperm are slower but live longer. So if your mucus was thicker at first and then thinned out, you could be having a girl because the male sperm would have died, but if your mucus was thin at the time you had sex, it could be a boy since males are faster. The one sure way to find out the sex of your child? Birth! LOL :) Have fun and congrats

dont worry about family history - eggs have 2 X chromosomes. some of mens spermies have 2X chromosomes and some have an X and a Y chromosomes. if an X chromosome sperm fertilises then you get a girl, if a XY chromosome does it then its a boy.
my family are all girls and my hubby is only boy in long line of his so we thought we'd get no surprise. we had a boy.
its all down to which sperm was lucky

all down to X & Y Chromosomes,
Since X-X is female and X-Y is male
Females can only provide x chromosones and males can done an X or Y.
So it is the male that decides the childs sex, so it is all dependent on your boyfriends side.

you can't inherit what sex your children will be. the chromosones are produced by the testes. women have x chromosones, men can either have an x or y. if a sperm carrying the x chromosone fertilizes the egg, you'll have a girl. if a y one fertilizes, it's a boy. it's a 50/50 chance.
