weight gain which is hard to lose, carbohydrate cravings, unlimitless hunger ( I have Pcos and am insulin resistant most of the time). The easiest way to find out is doing a glucose tolerance test or challenge. You have to go to a blood lab and they take your blood, after fasting all night for about 12hrs. Then give you a glucose drink and then you sit there for 2 hrs with a timer. After the 2hrs they take blood again and see what your tolerance to the glucose is after it has been digested, and send the results to your Doctor. If you are insulin resistant your result will be over 6 if it is normal it will be between 4-6. I have just had another one done and at the moment my result was 5.2, so run of the mill, but pre-pregnancy it was 8.6, so quite high. My Gyno put me on metformin and my levels come down. See your Doc for the test. Pre-diabetes (insulin resistance) is manageable and reversible. Get tested. Good luck.
