Shouldnt Cashman take the majority of the heat. He assembled this team. He and Georgie boy are the ones that went and got an aging arm and did nothing to solidify a bad pitching staff. I am amazed Torre even got this team to the playoffs. Does anyone else think Cashman plays a bigger part in this and that Steinbrenner needs to seriously look in the mirror rather than just spending millions on overpriced players.

Well doesnt that include Cashman, and not many people are saying much about him. And we are not Steinbrenner, more than Steinbrenner is making him the fall guy.

Well doesnt that include Cashman, he's getting paid lots of money, he works for Steinbrenner, and not many people are saying much about him. And we are not Steinbrenner, more than Steinbrenner is making him the fall guy. And Ron Guidry is the pitching coach, why isnt he under fire, they were the achilles heel of this team. Isnt he an employee of Steinbrenner?

Steinbrenner is an idiot. That's why Torre is taking the heat. Steinbrenner STILL hasn't absorbed the notion that pitching is at least a small part of the game. The Yankees haven't entered the post season with short-series level pitching yet this century. Sure, the manager is the fall guy, but how is this Yanks team any different than the ones of the last half decade?

The way I look at it is that Torre doesn't swing a bat, pitch a ball or field a pop up. He has made some questionable calls during the season but everyone makes a bad every once in awhile. Do I think Torre should take all of the heat, NO, but do I think it's time for a change, Yes. I think the players who have been with Joe all of his tenure have gotten a little complacent about things. I don't sense the same hunger from Jeter, Posada and Mariano. I would love to see Girardi take the helm. Mattingly should stay the bench coach for a few more years. he's not ready
Cashman to his credit did not trade away the future which has been the norm for Yankee teams of old. We're one starter away and maybe we can entice Minnesota to trade Johan for some of our Youth, not all of it.
Roger Please retire. You're making a joke out of Pitching in the 21st century.

Torre has always taken the heat just like managers before him....Cashman doesn't take the heat because he assembles the team which is then Torres responsibility to WIN!!!
Cashmen if I am not mistaken has total control of team operations.....I hope that Cashmen and company DO NOT MAKE MOVES LIKE THE YANKEES DID IN THE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S.....NOBODY WANTED TO PLAY FOR THE YANKEES DURING THAT TIME......They need to be careful about firing Torre and hiring a new replacement....some of the players may walk IE Posada, Mariano, and Andy...other issues are what are they going to do with Abreu they have the team option this year on his contract??? A-ROD another key issue the Yankees are prepared to make him some mega offer but if he decides to opt out they can go and get GOOD TALENT KEEP THEM IN THE FARM SYSTEM ALLOW THEM TO DEVELOP DON'T RUSH TO BRING THEM UP.....Just like the core of the 1990's championship team Posada Jeter Andy Maraino all came up threw the Yankee farm system!!! That is were the money should be spent....Don't get me wrong if there is a key player available that can help the Yankees they should make the offer but don't waste money on washed up players!!!!

He's the manager and ultimately responsible for the success of the Yankees. That said, how Steinbrenner to think the Yankees are not successful is beyond me - George is an idiot. They play great baseball and play with heart and courage. Torre is one of the finest managers who ever managed.
And I don't even like the Yankees.

I agree with you 1000 percent, Cashman should take the Heat but the fact is ...George has been gunning for Torre for years, this in His mind gives him a reason to Finally get his way..At Joes expense..... I believe that the reason that cashman will remain with the Yankees is that its much harder to go out and replace a GM then it is to Replace a Manager.. But givin the track record of The Boss, who in their right mind would WANT that Job????

They bet the season on the aging arm, as you pointed out, in Roger Clemens...and it sort of didn't pan out...Torre is a good manager...and I think if Steinbrenner was gonna really fire him, he would have done it already...Its been a couple days...I suspect Torre will be back...

Torre has as much input on whom the Yanks hire and fire as you and I do. It's not Torre's fault the Yanks do poorly in post season, he has a team built on offense, with horrible pitching and just an average defense. Stienbrenner should fire Cashman and half the team, keep Torre and rebuild the team like it was in the 90's piching defense and little ball.

It is the responsibility of the manager to lead the team to victory and if that does not occur he is the fall guy. Torre can delegate his authority to his coaches but he can't delegate responsibility, that falls right on his shoulders. Also, you can bet that Torre had plenty of input on every trade that was made and all the players on the roster. It stinks, because I really believe that Torre is a good manager, but that is life in the fast lane and every manager knows it going in.

They better watch who they pick for manager,BC if Posada,
Rivera, and Pettite don't like who they pick,All of them are walking! The thing that has me baffled about this is,Every player on the team in one way or the other went to bat for Torre to stay Damon, Posada, Rivera,Mientkiewicz, even Arod,,but not the team Cap Jeter! I guess it's true what alot of people have been saying all along about Jeter! HE is a polished Phony!!

The ones that should be taking the heat are the players. They are the ones that haven't been playing up to expectations. I really think they should get rid of some players this offseason and KEEP Torre. That seems to make more sense but I guess it's just me.
