Yes but there have been theories long before the Da Vinci Code....the Da Vinci code kinda broke the spirit. I don't know why...I felt it was nothing special either when I read the book...I found some of it purely coincidence and it did not amaze me...And I really believe that the Vatican is keeping something from us still...but way before that book was publicized. Of course something is not quite right in the Vatican...Whether you believe it through Tom Hanks or don't believe it at all....but its there and we will probably never know what...

Regardless of what the vatican may or may not have hidden...

You have to understand that even if all the evidence shown in the movie (or the book) is real, it's only evidence that someone may have believed all that about jesus.
Leonardo, as old as you may think he is, wasn't present at the last supper. Even if it really was one. He painted something and it's being interpreted now. It's not evidence of the event itself and it's not evidence that Leonardo believed that. If the interpretation is correct (probably we'll never know) it's evidence of Leonardo's belief but not evidence of the events of the last supper.

The vatican tried to ban the movie because that's what they do always. It's like clockwork and authors around the world know exactly how it works and how to use it to their own advantage. The vatican is one of the best propaganda institutions ever and you can use it for free if you know how.
Dan Brown is (in my opinion) a poor writer. The novel is weak, full of clichés, with bad timing. It was painful to read.
The evidence mentioned is interesting but it's not his merit. There's no real research, it was all based on other people's investigations. So, there was no real value there either.
The finale was pretty obvious by the middle of the book and the romantic conclusion totally out of place.
But, just question the dogmas of the vatican and you get free press for a long time. The popular perception is that if the vatican (or the government or the school authorities...) says that you should NOT read that book it's because the book is worth something.
I don't like the vatican but sometimes they're right (for the wrong reasons...) ;oD

Anyway, the point is that people get carried away by this conspiracy theories and accept anything that support such theory as indisputable truth.
There's no evidence of those events, there's evidence that someone at some time thousand years after the events may have believed that such events took place.

Gee, I thought we were done with these types of question already. The truth and the evidence has already been presented and the world knows that Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction.

Case in point, go to any major bookstore chain and look for the book The Da Vinci Code. You will find it in the fiction section along with the works of Stephen King, Tom Clancy, and many others.

As a Historian and College Professor. The answer is 100% NO. - Why, because we live in the information age, they wouldn't be able to keep any secrets about Jesus from reaching the world. Besides why would they???? All that they would have to do is not make any more copies.

If anybody ever really did a full in-depth research about Emperor Constantine, they would know that Constantine did not favor the idea of Christ divinity, so why would he destroy documents that would be in favor of his beliefs. In the words of a famous fictional sci-fi character named Spock "That would be illogical, Captain".

The movie and book The Da Vinci Code is a work of thoughtful fiction. Remember, it's all fiction. All of Dan Brown's research was based on a man who had admitted under other in a court of law that he fabricated many documents about the life of Christ linage and the Priory of Sion. I got tons of proof of this.

All of Dan Brown's claims are moot. There are tons of evidence that disprove everything Dan Brown has stated in his books. And I got lots of evidence I collected myself along with lots of people form all fields of study who stand with me.

Vatican tried to ban the movie because it was blasphemous towards Jesus and God, had nothing to do Dan Brown claims.

By the way the Holocaust did happen as well. Or do you want proof of that too.

Um......the Vatican didn't try to ban the movie. In fact, many Catholic churches have used, and even shown the film, to create discussions about Christianity. You have to remember - The DaVinci Code was FICTION. People tend to forget that. It did not detail every secret. It used rumors and myths, as well as a nonfiction book that offered no proof, only speculation, and it used them very successfully to create a very exciting novel. Are there secrets that are being kept from us? I don't know. But Dan Brown's book is not an expose, just an exciting book.

Papal States nor the Vatican ever governed any of those places(properly different than a small portion of France formerly the French Revolution) England is protestant, if there have been secrets and strategies they possibly might have revealed it. French Revolution grow to be atheistic and destroyed the church in France and imprisoned 2 popes till Napoleon grow to be overthrown.

everything you need to know about christ is in the bible.
if you want to read the gnostic gospels, the are available on line.

to answer asa a, there are 66 books in the bible & 40 authors over 1500 years, & da vinci's depiction of the last supper is totally inaccurate because they didn't sit on chairs at high tables like we do now....instead they sat on the floor and leaned against the person next to them ( hence the reason they washed their feet before meals).

and the clothes they wore in da vinci's painting were the clothes they wore in da vinci's time as opposed to the first century, and the people in the portrait were da vinci's friends, not faces drawn from memory.....if one face looks iffeminate, it has nothing to do with the events of the last supper, & the dipiction of judas having " shifty eyes" is an obvious exageration.

In my opinion, I think the Vatican did keep secrets about Christ.I don't know if I'm not religious enough or anything, but I get the feeling they've somehow altered or erased some things that would be inappropriate to be learned by people.Just an opinion.

i believe so...
i saw the movie of Joan of Arc years before Da Vinci Code, and from there it made me think why did the Catholic Religion wants to eliminate the scholars, especially woman scholars who were into scientific pursuits? plus, during my History class, it bothered me more as to Costantine's paganism until in his deathbed when in fact he started the Catholic faith, so to say...

All of the organized religions have kept secrets. There are books of the Bible that have been left out because they didn't conform to notions of how the church felt people should behave. They've added a lot to their practices that isn't even in the Bible, because the church wants to control you and your money.
