You 'll need to have some programming experience. But Visual Basic has a concept that you can understand it easily.

it really depends on if you're passionate about it. If you don't like writing computer software, you won't succeed. If you really just want to make software, find a university that specifically offers software engineering as a degree. Website development is a very competitive field but if you can be innovative and know how to program correctly, you will be in demand even with all the crappy template sites out. Template sites provide no personality and no customization, something a lot of businesses do not want.

All programming languages are about the same to use. The concepts you have to understand is the same for all of them. Use the syntax (wording of the commands) is a little different for each.
VB is a little easier then some of the languages (like C) because it is very structured and does not use a lot of "shortcut" commands for coding (like the command "x+" to mean "x=x+1")
VB is also nice because it is a "visual" language. That means it uses "wizards" to help you create many of the visual components (form, dialogue boxes, etc) that you will need in program rather than having to code them all by hand.
So it is a good "first language" to learn.

When you say 'little' programming experience, you know atleast one programming language, right? Its easy to make a program when you know the basic principles of a programming language (eg. syntax, variables, procedures...etc).
With regards to Visual Basic, you can learn it in a week. Theres so many available free tutorials on the web.

Actually VB is much easy to use than others...particularly on mathematical programing.
because the language syntax look close to simple mathematical symbols, equations etc and simple English like mnemonics.
I am a programmer with mathematics bag round..if you need any help..let me know.

visual basic is not that difficult, you should give it a try if you want to start program, but i will take some time to learn it. For easy learning i recomend you check the "for dummies" books (not an insult, they are very good to learn basic things, i use them all the time http://www.dummies.com).
You can also use Excel to make some calculations, sometimes it's easier this way for little programs.
Good luck.
