Hi,
Two standard-sized pillows normally.
I have slept on various beaches in a sleepy bag and a mound of sand.
My bed is electric, so you can prop your head up or down at any angle.
This can be confusing.
I have slept with a notion that occured, in that if you inflate the empty bag out of a boxed wine thing, it makes a fine pillow on a remote Greek Island.
I don't know how you keep control of seven pillows at night, don't you end up in a complete muddle in the morning ?

Make her buy you new ones! Don't you hate that, when you get something all broken in nice and comfy and someone comes along and says, EEW and tosses it?
I use two, a semicircular TempurPedic and (believe it or not) a decorative lumbar pillow that I made a case for. During the night, I switch to whichever is more comfortable at that time.
Both travel with me.

Two regular pillows with a neck pillow on top; one between my knees and one to throw my arm over.

7! 7? Do you sleep sitting up?
I start out with 2, 1 usually gets tossed some time during the night.

Depends on where I'm sleeping.
When I'm home; I use one king pillow under my shoulders and one standard pillow, on top of the king, under my neck and head. I use one standard pillow between my knees.
I've used a small travel pillow under my head and a blanket between my knees at times. I've slept with no pillows when it couldn't be avoided. I've also surrounded myself with pillows at some nice hotels.....only to kick most of them off the bed by morning....;)
