...while sitting at stop lights it occassionally stops running. I still get the electrical. Then it will start right back up. It has a 2 yr old battery. It has a newer starter. I just had a new fuel pump put in 2 weeks ago! And no codes come up on the computer. I have had it to 4 different mechanics over the past year. None of them could duplicate the problem. Any help is VERY welcome. It is my only vehicle and I am a poor college student.

The lights come on. And the ignition makes noise. Other than that it is intermitent. It is starting to happen more often.

i had similar problems with mine and someone told me it needed a new alternator. i gave the car away to my brother so i do not know yet if that is going to work. i also replaced the coil pack and that helped. sometimes it's like a frustrating puzzle, i know. maybe there is a short in the stearing column. my grandpa's did the same thing now that i think of it. look it up on autotrader and see if there were any types of recalls for that particular problem.

Might be a bad ignition switch which would not show up as a trouble code. Could also be bad wiring to the fuel pump or a bad ground causing it to shut off intermittently. The computer only has codes for items in the closed loop of the various sensors and devices it controls so ignition items and fuel related items are usually not going to show a code. A no start condition coupled with intermittent stalling would seem to me to be a bad ignition circuit or possibly fuel pump circuit. Intermittent stalling problems are hard to pin down so you have to examine the faults very carefully. If no codes are shown on the computer, I would suspect something in the ignition circuit like ignition switch, wiring loose or corroded, Check all the connectors for being loose or not---wiggle them with the engine running to see if it cuts out or stalls. Check them for corrosion also or signs of being burnt. When it doesn't start, does the starter click or make no noise at all? Does it turn over or not crank at all? Do other lights on the dash come on? Does the heater fan or headlights work?

I had an intermittent problem like that with a Pontiac 3.1L it got worst and worst, after spending a fortune on what I thought it was, I tokk it to my buddies auto electric, ( Im a prof mech ) he has an induction volt, and amp meter, we found that an injector had a crack in the casing, and after it warmed up it woul expand, short out, then die, only after it cooled would it start, but it started out like yours

You could have a faulty crank sensor, a bad idle air control value, clog fuel filter, a bad mass air flow sensor. These parts are not expensive to replace. Good luck.
