Strictly speaking, religious thought is irrational, magical thinking. People rising from the dead is not possible, of course. But the human brain is wired for such magical thinking--most modern people are able to redirect that magical need into artistic or creative efforts. But I don't think religion is, in and of itself, insane.

It can become an all-consuming obsession, however. But so can romantic love. When that happens, the dysfunction is in the person's psyche and behavior, and not actually in the religion or loved one.

Of course, hyper-religious thought is often a symptom of psychosis or schizophrenia. Many of the mystics of the past would today be considered mentally ill.

People can also hide a psychological using religion or a belief as well. Not all people who believe in a chosen religion as a way of life are mentally challenged with psychological problems. So my answer to your question would be no.

I was a telephone counsellor for almost ten years in the 90s.
There were many calls from people who had been brainwashed into believing they were going to hell if they didn't conform to the doctrine of the breed of xianity they were ‘in’.

I know that psychologists walk a fine line between telling their clients there are no invisible beings but it's okay to 'worship god'.
I know that if anyone lives in the 'knowledge' that 'god' sees everything you say, think and do, 24/7, and you imagine that he is constantly threatening you with hell if you don't suck up to him, you are gonna be paranoid.

Psychiatrists and psychologists make good money from delusional xians.
Hey, and so do the scammers who say the delusions are true.
Everyone wins except the mark.
LOLz

Robert M. Pirsig: When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion.

Jesus was a psychologist(counselor). every time he spoke life in people's life's.
and the bible is my biggest psychologist, because it's my comforter and direction.

I'm a psychologist myself and i think psychologist should make the word of god knows in their hearts

now the bible(religion) and psychology are both meant to help people with their needs emotionally, spiritually or physically.
but there are things that psychologists agree with that are against the word of god.
