Why did/does everyone rag on Gordon years ago/today? Human nature. Some people love to root for the winners some root for the under dogs and some root for people like Jr who's family has been in racing down south for a long long time. Had a father who was just a great driver that made a name bigger than NASCAR ever imagined.
Some people think if you don't like there driver they root for then you need to hear all the faults about your driver or bash the most popular.
What you are talking about has nothing to do with him changing teams. If someone is ragging on him for changing teams they don't know racing and how Tereasa has let the DEI company fall to 4Th or 5Th best. Once the team to beat on the supers now lucky to finish one and if they finish a top 10 is cherished where if they didn't win years 6 to 4 years ago it was a shock an upset. Shoot, even Mikey won when he drove for them and he's no driver.
The bashers should realize that he couldn't go to RCR right now with RCR and DEI working out a engine plan. He wasn't going to go to Gibbs and get away from driving a Chevy, so who else was there to go to that made any kind of since? He doesn't have a beef with Gordon or Johnson the fans have the trouble dealing with him on the same team.
I watch/and love racing. Except most of the new tracks. What a waste of money and time.
I root for a driver, then the make of car. I don't care who they drive for (unless it's Roush) or who there team mates are. I will still root for Jr and be calm but anti Gordon and Johnson.
I guess it's human nature.

I've been a jr fan since the NBS...not like most of the "bandwagon" fans, that liked him after his dad died. He is going to be a real factor next year...why are ppl hatin on him so bad-anyways I'm on the Jr warwagon for life!!!! I am glad Jr made the decision he made, DEI is a sinking ship and he jumped off at the right time!
WAR JR! 88 in 08 AMP!

A lot of fans who were fans of his father don't think Junior is living up to his expectation.
Sure Junior is a very knowledgeable driver, and he appeals to the younger crowd. Both of these are very good trates to have. But Junior falls into the "glamor boy" catagory. Now don't take it wrong it is a NASCAR advertising ploy to get fans.Junior,Gordon,Johnson,Khane,Busch,Kenseth basicly young drivers that have a certain GQ look to them. This attracks female fans. Then put these drivers in the rough tuff work a day commercials or selling products that make you more masculin wins the male fans.
So Junior sells.Bud,Wrangler,Tylenol,Chevrolet all products pitched by Junior. All have commercials with Junior so his popularity is directly related to these products thru the NASCAR racing connection and the fans are all voting for him as the most popular.

Completely agree with you. The news at first was shocking, but I do understand why he did it. Jr definitely needed a change! I think by stepping out of the shadows of his father's footsteps and away from Theresa, we are going to see a BRAND NEW Jr next season. He can now finally be his own person and I support that. He made a HUGE decision to leave the family business and I applaud him for that. Hendrick will provide him and Tony Jr with ANYTHING they need to be the winning team they deserve to be!!

I agree with popular yes, but he isn't the greatest driver in NASCAR today as most of his fans think he is. What has he got the show for all his great driving & ability. How many titles, 0 & how many wins this year, 0. When was his last win? It's been awhile. He won't fair much better at HMS since he is bringing Eury Jr with him. Double the car #(88) & double the # of wins next season (0 times 0=0) He is only popular because of his last name.

I am and always will be a Dale Jr fan. I also respect his decision and am excited about next yr. Doesn't mean I'm gonna cheer for his teammates. At least he'll have a better chance of winning next yr. GO JR!

Jr is still at least five times more popular than any other driver.
It shouldn't even matter to you that some fans changed loyalties.

Jr is one of the most popular drivers because I think that his dads fans 'adopted' him. The reason for the bad comments might be because a majority of Jr fans hate Jeff Gordon and feel that he betrayed them by going to race for HMS, of which Jeff Gordon is employed.
Jr was obviously struggling with DEI, because he hasn't won a race in years. If people can't accept the fact that he's not racing for DEI, then its their loss.
