Check out the recipes section on the Food network. This site list all the recipes from the network channel. For a new cook I would recommend that you keep it simple, use fresh ingredients and have fun and don't be intimidated , try something new!! Ask Chef Winston???

A community on livejournal.com has wonderful recipes that people post! The link is: http://community.livejournal.com/super_supper
If you look at the tags on the left, it will show you different subjects for recipes (ie. pasta, chicken, turkey, beef, steak, etc..) and that's the easiest way to navigate through the recipes you are looking for!
Hope this helps!

Fannie Farmer, aka The Boston Cooking-School Cook Book, is the classic, the Bible of cooking. Can't be without it.

Also, try food blogs, they usually have step-by-step instructions and the recipe has already been tested.
