Some people, notably celebreties or people in high paid positions seem to get conditional jail time that allows them to work, but the ordinaryJoe seems to not only lose his license but his job as well cause he can't work while he's in jail and I think the imbalance is unjust.

Killing, or even injuring someone, while driving drunk should definately include jail time.

Work release, or Huber Law, is at the discretion of the judge. As long as the person is not a threat to society, there is no reason they shouldn't get work release. You didn't mention where you were from, but work release is common here.

Many people have families, and by not allowing work release, they are punishing others who did not participate in the act.

1st of all you are right, the law should be the same for everyone, regardless who it is.
Yes, anyone who drives drunk or drugged, should get jail time and go to work, for there is no excuse in this world for anyone to permit themselves to risk the lives of anyone, including his family or them self.
I would not throw away the key for a 1st offence, everyone makes stupid mistakes, but more then that, destroy the key for they never care or learn.

If the celebs had killed someone, they wouldn't be able to weasel their way out of serious jail time. Well, someone has pulled it off, but they were a politician not the kind of celebrity you're talking about. I think they are treated more gently than the rest of the public and no, it's not fair. But who said life was fair?

Of course it's unjust! It's horrible.
I don't know about other states, but in Florida, a DUI is a misdamener. I think it should be a felony and mandatory jail time.

I think people who drive drunk and kill someone should be locked up for many many many many years - hopefully until they die.

MONEY always buys privileges - money is a necessary evil, and what it can buy is not always good, fair, or just. That is the way it is - always has been, always will be - get over it.

They should be imprisoned for murder and also, they should be put in a fenced corral without any protective gear --just standing there--with about 10 drunk drivers racing around in cars just for fun.
IMHO
