Yes there are many muslims can memorize the whole contents of Qur'an since the era of Muhammad pbuh up to now.I am a muslim too but I could only memorize some short surahs..I think there is no other book in other religion which can be memorized as a whole.
Muhammad pbuh said in his hadith that memorising the Qur'an is a must because it should be read oftenly and Qur'an will give help to humans who read it on the resurrection day.
The contents of Qur'an should be practised in muslim everyday of life. Before pactising it we should understand its meaning.

It is true. There are hundreds of thousands of Muslims who have memorized Quran in every generation since 1400 years. It is easy to memorize even if lots of them do not know Arabic language like people of Iran, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia etc.
This is miracle of God to preserve Quran in its originality.
Here's what says in Quran about its preservation:
“Behold, it is We Ourselves who have gradually revealed this reminder, and, behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption].” (Quran 15:9)
“And in truth We have made the Quran easy to remember; who, then, is willing to take it to heart?” (Quran 54:17)
