I think that its called a flashbulb moment, because when u see, or hear, or smell a particular thing, it reminds u of something that happened in ur past. (ex: that object triggers something in ur memory) For example, on 9-11 I remember my first class was math class (that's where I saw the images of the twin towers going down on t.v). So everytime I think about 9-11, I think about being in math class and the exact things that took place on that day.

I know there is a french term called De ja vu(I'm sure that I am writing it wrong) which means to be jolted into a sensation of knowing something from before----not necessarily something you may have ever done. It could be memory recall...where you remember a certain memory brought on by a smell, a photo, something that jogs your brain into remembering something that used to be important to you. Guard Dog

I don't think it's "deja vu"...I think that's when you're in a place that you've never been before..couldn't have possibly been before..but it seems like you've been there. Or, if something happens and it seems like it has happened before. You can google it. I know what you're talking about ..but I've never heard a name for it. I'd be interested to know what it is too..if there's a name. Let's see if somebody answers and tells us.!

It's called a recollection, from the recognition action.
Recall is part of the memory that's a little deeper and more difficult to bring to the surface. The easier one is called recognition. Cognition means "thinking", so re-cognition is literally "thinking again", or bringing something to the conscious working memory out of the coded long-term memory.

Deja- Vu. The term in French I guess, meaning to re-live the experience, meaning quite literally, I beleive, been there before.
