that the Earth is square or a rhombus? Has evidence to the contrary been planted by Satan to trick us? We've seen Satan pull this kind of thing before, with all his "evidence" for the theory of evolution...

Okay, so if it's a figure of speech, how do you know that the "days" of the creation were literal, 24-hour days? Have any creationists seen "Inherit the Wind?"

You will also notice that it places the corners at the compass directions, and posts an Angel at each one to hold the winds back.
I only mention this because when most of us think square we think of it more like a checker board than a diamond shape.
You know, with a side facing north instead of a corner pointing north.

The bible also manages to descibe the earth as square, as flat, as immovable, as round (but round like a pizza instead of a ball).
It also describes heaven as a solid material, a dome, a tent and an upside down bowl, all of which rest on the earth at its edges. It states clearly that Heaven has water on the other side of it and that the stars, sun, and moon are stuck to the inside.
That God made the Sun, Moon and planets able to move around so that we would know what time it was.
The Stars were thought of as being close, and small, so they saw nothing wrong with the idea of them getting knocked loose and falling to earth like a shower of sparks. (can we say meteor showers as a model) They saw nothing wrong with the idea of the Sun hiding in a Valley either.

With God inspired wisdom like this, Satan has no need to tell any lies.

For those who said isiah 40:22 proves the earth is round, BS! First of all, a circle is not a ball or sphere or an egg-shaped object. A circle is a flat round surface, similar to flat rectangular, or square, or triangular surfaces. So if the Bible claims that the Earth is a circle, then this is still bogus because the earth is obviously not a flat surface. We have two conditions here: 1- Isaiah 40:22 is claiming that the Earth is a flat circle. 2- Isaiah 40:22 is claiming that the Earth has a circle above it. If we were to take condition #1, then we are left with a clear and irrefutable contradiction between Isaiah 40:22 and some of the Bible's verses that mentioned corners of the earth, because a flat circle doesn't have "four corners", and ironically in either case, we still have a scientifically false claim about the Earth's shape. IF we were to take condition #2, then it doesn't prove that the Earth is an egg-shaped figure, and Isaiah 40:22 surely becomes irrelevant to this subject. One thing is for sure clear, and that is Isaiah 40:22 is obviously ambiguous and not clear if we wish to prove from it that the Earth is not flat and is egg-shaped. If we look at what the entire Bible says about the shape of the Earth as the Roman Catholic Church did in the past, then we would reach the same conclusion they reached, and that is: The Earth is Flat!

“After this I saw four angels standing upon the four corners of the earth, holding tight the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow upon the earth or upon the sea or upon any tree.” (Revelation 7:1) What does this mean for us today? These “four winds” are a vivid symbol of destructive judgment about to be let loose on a wicked earthly society, on the surging “sea” of lawless humanity, and on lofty treelike rulers that draw support and sustenance from the people of the earth.

No doubt, these four angels represent four angelic groups, whom God uses to hold back the execution of judgment until the appointed time. When the angels release those winds of divine wrath to whirl at one time from north, south, east, and west, the devastation will be tremendous. It will resemble, but on a stupendous scale, God's use of the four winds to scatter the ancient Elamites, shattering and exterminating them. It will be a gigantic storm wind far more devastating than the “tempest” by which Jehovah annihilated the nation of Ammon. No part of Satan’s organization on earth will be able to stand in the day of God's fury, when he vindicates his sovereignty for all eternity to come. Psalm 83:15, 18;

The number four is often used to denote that which is fully rounded out, as it were, just as we have four directions and sometimes employ the expressions “to the ends of the earth,” “to the four corners of the earth,” in the sense of embracing all the earth.

Honestly, the first thing that came to my mind,,,was simply

NORTH
SOUTH
EAST
WEST

Then I thought - well what does the research say?

Pretty much the same thing. The four corners most likely represent the four compass points.

The word used generally means represent "extremeties". In Hebrew -- Kanaph.

The phrase can also be found in classic literature in works by Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, and in classic works such as The Last Of The Mohicans, by James Fennimore Cooper and Moby Dick by Herman Melville.

And as for "evolution" - check this out: Did Darwin become a Christian on his deathbed? You decide!

No, and when Jesus said "I am the vine and you are the branches" he wasn't saying he was a plant either...

Have any creationists seen "Inherit the Wind?"
Seen it? I was made to read it in High School... I wonder what the reaction would be if students were made to read Darwin's Black Box?

BTW do you know the REAL history of the Scopes trial?

"The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had offered to defend anyone accused of teaching the theory of evolution in defiance of the Butler Act. George Rappleyea, who managed several local mines, convinced a group of businessmen in Dayton, Tennessee, then a town of 1,800, that the controversy of such a trial would give Dayton much publicity. With their agreement, he called in his friend, 24-year-old John Scopes, who was the clark County High School's football coach who had substituted for Principal Ferguson in a science class. Rappleyea asked Scopes to teach the theory of evolution."

The four corners simply mean the entire earth. I've run across a lot of bad reading comprehension lately. I wonder if it's just another example of the failure in our education system. hmmm???
