say you've served your 2/4, whatever years and now you are back home as a civilian and have nothing to do with the military but you are still on inactive reserve since the 8 years is not up yet

is it very unlikely you'll get called up for active duty while on the IRR or it'll take like a world war?

I didnt join myself but a close friend of mine i met in school, he joined the military at 19, served 3 years including 2 tours in iraq and now is back in college fulltime and have nothing to do with the army. he said he is still on call but probably won't go back in unless we attack iran and a huge amount of forces are needed,

I think it depends upon your MOS and the ultimate needs of the army. It need not take a world war to activate you.

After the first Gulf War, I had been in the IRR for two years or so. I thought I was done. My first child was three and my second was a year. Somewhat and quite naively, I really did not know about the stop loss or involuntary activation provisions or else I never seriously considered them.

I was ordered to active duty to serve with SF Detachment Korea in '93 when the DPRK last rattled its sabers over nuclear weapons. That was no world war. It seemed odd to me that an IRR soldier was the only guy they could find, but I learned it all had to do with some of the MOS' I had acquired.

I think the odds of being involuntarily called become higher as the army gets stretched. I hope you successfully stay under Branch radar. Best of luck to you.
Regards

Although you are technically assigned to the IRR, the Army now associates every IRR Soldier's name to a Reserve unit, and if that unit is activated (deployed) all of the IRR Soldier's associated with that unit are called up as well.

So right now, the odds are you will be called up at least once while in the IRR.

If you want more control over your deployments, go into the Active Reserve and join a unit which just returned from a deployment and isn't scheduled to go again soon.

Lets look at this from my point of view. The army has missed recruiting goals by close to 100k for more than a few years. If you havent been called up by now, I would think that its going to take a world war combined with almost everyone in your former MOS being killed in a very short time. So to me, it sounds like you have better chances of winning the lottery and then being struck by lightning and surviving, or vice versa, than being recalled.

Oh, yea.... From a Prior Navy Servicemember, thanks for joining and for serving your country!

If your 8 years is not up, then there may be a possibility. I've done my time already way back. However, during the last Gulf War, I too was still under obligation but they did not call me.

Depends on how thin the Army gets. If they need you, they'll call you.

honestly it depends mostly on his job specialty. some have a greater chance of being recalled than others.
