I've heard alot about Catholicism being a pagan religion behind it all, and also that the Pope is an antichrist / false prophet.

I was just curious as to what Catholics thought about all this.

Thanks, and God Bless.

Thank You Isaiah, but that can also be spoken from both sides.

Not trying to denounce your faith or anyone else's, but trying to discern things for myself about the Catholic Church.

Biblical apocalyptic literature predicts the coming of "the" Antichrist, the name given to the one who will be Christ’s chief enemy. This will be just one person.

It is not uncommon for fundamentalist writers or preachers to attach the label to a currently living person. By calling a second (or third or fourth) person "the" Antichrist, they show that they were wrong when they applied the title to the first person.

Every Pope since the time of Martin Luther has been labeled "the" Antichrist by at least one anti-Catholic "Christian," making each one incorrect (so far).

The adjective "anti-Christ" does not refer to the person prophesied in the Bible. It may be applied to an attitude or action judged to be fundamentally opposed to Christ and his message, for example: Hating others is anti-Christ.

Pope Benedict XVI just wrote a wonderful book entitled, "Jesus of Nazareth." http://www.ignatius.com/ViewProduct.aspx?SID=1&Product_ID=3060&AFID=42

From a book review: Through his brilliance as a theologian and his personal conviction as a believer, the Pope shares a rich, compelling, flesh-and-blood portrait of Jesus and invites us to encounter, face-to-face, the central figure of the Christian faith.

How can someone who writes such a book be accused of being either the Antichrist or anti-Christ?

With love in Christ.

I was not aware of any such allegations. People are silly. They talk about other people and try to sort out the mystery of life. If it is true, then it is true, but if not, it isn't. The anti-Christ is supposed to work wonders, and if you ever really need to try and decipher the book of Revelations, the anti-Christ will come after 1000 years of peace, which occurs after the great tribulation. (Who knows how long 1000 years is in God's eyes) so it's a tempest in a teapot as far as I can see. People are all stirred up over something that actually is probably good. (I've never met the Pope, though.)

The Pope loves Christ so he can't be an anti-Christ. The Catholics believe in God so Catholicism is not a pagan religion. I guess we are sad about those who still do not know the truth but eventually we will know who is telling the truth and the truth shall set us free.

It is nothing but black propaganda. Fundamentalists have been saying this since the time Martin Luther made the accusation.

Fundamentalism is defined as “the practice of asserting the absolute truth of your own beliefs and practices to the deliberate exclusion of the possibility of truth in the beliefs and practices of others.” It is nothing but bigotry.

Fundamentalists have this "holier than thou" attitude, which gets in your nerves. They always presume to know more about your religion and what is good for you. Fundamentalists talk as if no case could be made for the Catholic faith.

Are they our modern day Pharisees?

How can I bring myself to love them? They resort to black propaganda and lies. Here are some examples of their lies and propaganda.

+ The Pope is the Anti-Christ (they have been saying this since Martin Luther made the accusation).

+ The Church is the Whore of Babylon in the book of Revelation

+ Catholics are not Christians

+ The Catholic Church is the Mother of all harlots.

+ Catholics worship Satan

+ The Catholic Church started Islam

And to add insult to injury they justify these allegations by saying “we don't want you to go to hell,” which is just ridiculous. Do they really expect us to fall for that line?

To my fundamentalist brothers & sisters: Jesus said, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. – Matthew 7, 1-2 (KJV)

What every pope including St. Peter? Come on, that should tell you how absurd that notion is.

Gypsy made a comment about a "Nazi pope". She could only be referring to Pope Pius XII, who gave refuge to Jews inside the Vatican, and arranged for them to escape Europe during WW II. I wish people would get their facts straight!

If you really want to discern things honestly, you will consult Catholic Doctrine, not garden-variety anti-catholic bigotry.

Enh, he's ALWAYS been "the anti-Christ", ever since the Evangelicals started getting creative with their interpretations. He could bake them a pie and they'd still call him that, no matter who he was. So let 'em rant. He can take care of himself.

definite the Pope became the antichrist whilst Christ appeared on the apostle Simon and pronounced, "I say unto thee that thou artwork the antichrist, and upon this rock i visit construct my Church. I provide unto you the keys to my kingdom." fantastic, do no longer you think of, that people who save on with this "fake prophet" have 2,000 years of team spirit of perception and team spirit of worship, purely as Christ pronounced they might desire to ("that all of them would be ONE"), jointly as people who do no longer save on with this "fake prophet" have fragmented into 1000's of conflictinjg, contradicting unauthorized artifical church homes coaching fake ideals, in in uncomplicated terms some hundred years? And all of us understand that those church homes are crammed with fake ideals with the aid of fact their ideals conflict with one yet another on surprisingly much each factor, and actuality won't be able to conflict with actuality. .

They have been deceived. Jesus prophesied them:

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; **insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect**.

Basically, they're just seeing what they want to see. It doesn't bother me any more than other strange things people come up with about the Church.
