My neighbors have banded together to complain that I'm driving too fast. First it annoys me that they've taken to spying on my daily routines. Second, I'm bothered by the fact that they would "band together" against me. Third, I'm steamed that they have contacted the police department to set up a sting to get me a ticket. And worst of all, they went around my back with all this and told my elderly father.

Here's the kicker: I always watch my spedometer in the neighborhood to make sure I'm driving well under the speed limit, which is 25 mph. On average I'm driving 15, and I always slow up even more in spots where I think kids might be, so what the hell is their problem? And how dare they go around me to a relative instead of saying it to my face?! Are they just assuming that I'm speeding because I drive a sports car, or am I missing something?

We've always had cops in the neighborhood running stings and I've never gotten a ticket.

No baloney here. I've lived in this neighborhood for 30 years and never once was invited to the neighborhood association meeting. I think it's probably about more that neighborly "concern."

People don't usually band together against someone for no good reason. Sometimes even the speed limit is too high, if the roads are wet or there are kids in the area playing. I think you are missing something- the fact that your neighbors seem to dislike you, alot. The tone of your question is obviously angry, but somewhat arrogant as well, so perhaps a simple dislike of your attitude, over 30 yrs, just irks them. Continue to follow the rules and avoid them whenever possible. If you are that agitated, confront the worst offenders to clear the air and you might find out what the real problem is.

First you may want to get your speedometer calibrated. I had a car and found out my speedometer was 7 mph off!

Second if you are staying under the speed limit then the cops won't give you a ticket and will eventually disregard what the neighbors are claiming.

Finally, most people won't say anything to your face because of cowardliness or fear. I'm not sure which your case would be. As upset as you are, you need to just blow this off. **Unless you think there's an underlying issue that you need to address with them. There's usually a "ringleader" so you may want to inquire from your father who you need to speak to and let him know not to worry that you're going to try and fix this.

There are always people in the world like your neighbors but as long as you are in the right they can "huff and puff" till their blue and get no where. You can't stop them from talking, the key is to maintain your integrity and let them ruin theirs.

Good Luck!

Did you get a ticket? If you did then I guess you were speeding. I know that day was an exception. Why don't you confront the neighbors and find out why they think that you are speeding? Going to your relative was childish on their part. But I guess if all the neighbors are in on it a,) your are speeding b.) you did something to piss everyone off in the neighborhood. The only solution that you have to this problem is a) confront the neighbors and ask them why they feel this way b.) don't speed c.) think long and hard about who you may have pissed off and how you pissed them off

Baloney. If you were driving the limit or under, the neighbours wouldn't be upset with you. And if you are always driving the limit, you can't get a speeding ticket.

Eit
Tony S, if one neighbour or family was complaining, I would agree with you. If all the neighbours are complaining, he is speeding. If he gets a speeding ticket, he is speeding. If he is the only driver in the neighbourhood that is accused of speeding all the time, he is speeding. When the whole neighbourhood complains about something, it is time to look inward to see how the situation can be rectified. 42 years I have been driving, I have never, ever had a neighbourhood mad at me.
I say again, if he is not speeding, he will not get a ticket!

I have a Chevy Silverado Pick up with a 350 V8 Vortex with dual exhaust..it sounds faster than I am actually driving. Zoom Zoom. I do not speed, but when my husband is driving up the street (at speed limit) it does sound like he is going fast!

As "they" say there are two sides to every story. From what you say you appear to be entirely in the right, which in itself makes me question your story. There is nothing wrong in what you are doing according to you but they, you can assume, just did not decide to invent a complaint against you. Pick the neighbor that you are least at odds with and have a friendly conversation with them and casually turn the conversation around to what is really wrong. It could be that you aren't doing anything wrong other than being black (or white or brown). Maybe you're seen as pretentious. Maybe you're trying to be something you're not; whatever that is. Maybe you don't cut your grass often enough. Whatever it is don't let it get to you too much..

Well first off if you own property in the neighborhood, you don't need an invitation to go to an association meeting. So if they won't confront you with the problem, why don't you confront them with your problem. You may have a right to be pissed off or there might be more to the story.

Wow, i'm going to have to completely disagree with Fred C. , and the lady who posted under him, and say: what a horrible assumption from you two.

because the neighboors believe her to be speeding, that automatically makes it true? you don't believe that in all likelyhood, they have nothing better to do, and feel vindicated, while acomplishing nothing?

soundslike your run-of-the-mill stupid neighboors to me. I can recall on a couple occasions myself when driving through certain neighboorhoods to slow down from bitchy woman, when I was doing exactly the posted speed limit.

Everyone thinks they are an expert on speed when it comes to cars that pass through the neighboorhood, but I would bet $20 that if you had them guess how fast you were going, they would be +/- 10mph.

also, why do people think that if your car is loud, it must be going fast? so stupid. some self proclaimed "speed analyzer" will see a benz doing 40 through the hood, not make a sound, and think he is going well under the limit. it kills me everytime when I see it.

Did you get the ticket?

If you really were driving faster than the speed limit than you have no right to be pissed off. If you were driving faster than the limit when your speedometer said you weren't then you need to get your car fixed.

Yeah I get that all the time too. I deliver pizza. I'm driving 15 or 20 in a 25 mph zone, where kids are all over the street. When some moron yells at me to, slow down. You're going to hit one of these kids. Bla, bla, bla. I just yell back. I won't if you teach your kids not to play in the street. Freakin irresponsible parents. Blaming everyone else for their lack of parenting skills.
