ive been dating my boyfriend for about 4 months. he's been going through a lot and is very stressed right now. this has led him to be distracted from keeping his apartment clean. i thought it would be nice if i went to his place while he is at work and clean it for him. even though he gave me a key and told me to come anytime i wanted, i feel like i would be intruding. would you feel that it would be intrusion or would you just be so happy about the clean apartment that it wouldnt matter? i really want it to be a surprise, so i dont want to tell him. but if i should...then i will. THANKS!

I would probably think that you might be "the one". Yep, that's how much I appreciate a girl who cares enough about me to clean my place. She would definitely get showered with my affection and I would definitely try my best to reward her with something she likes.

Nothing is better than a girl who doesn't think it is beneath her to spoil you a little bit from time to time. Hopefully, he will feel the same way.

Dear Little Sister:

I think that cleaning his apartment for him would really make him feel like a king. BUT ask him if you could do it for him FIRST. Why? Because guys just about always have something stashed in their apartment that they would be embarassed if their girl friend, (or Mom), came accross.

It could be skin mags, porn DVDs, love letters from an old girl friend, Pictures or VHS Tapes of old girl friends, marijuana or something stronger, or a pistol, or any number of things that he wanted to keep private without having to explain why. Or maybe he keeps a journal, and he wants to make sure that it's put away. Or it could be that he lives like such a pig, that he wants to clean the place up toi the level of "filthy", before you come over to "clean".

OK? I mean how would you feel if you were in a serious car accident, and your lease was expiring at the end of the month - which was in a week, and you were going to be in the Hospital at least a week. Plus you were going to have to move anyway, since your room mate was moving out, and you could not afford the rent and utilites by yourself, and you could not find another female room mate, and you weren't ready to live together with your BF. So you were going to move in with your married sister, and stay in their unfinished basement until you could find an affordable single apartment.

In the meantime, your BF knowing all this decided to suprise you and do you a huge favor, so he calls your sister and tells her he's moving your stuff into her basement for you, then goes and gets 4 or 5 buddies and they carefully pack up all your stuff, move it to your sister's place and unpack it, and put it all away - as much as they can - including making up your bed, hanging up you clothes, filling your highboy & dresser just like it was, and moving you TV & Stereo, and other furniture, and even hooking up a shower and plumbing in a toilet for you.

Sweet huh? That means they touched everything, your underwear, your birth contol stuff, (a 24 count box of condums???), and your tampons & yeast infection cream, your diary, your feminine hygene spray & make up. Your bras and your camisoles & teddys. Your stuffed animals, and PlayGirl Magazines, Your Old Tiger beat & Teen Magazines, and your photo Alblums, Love Letters from old Boy friends, and other stuff.

On one hand you are grateful, and on the other hand you are horrified that your boyfiend and a bunch of STRANGE GUYS were pawing thru all your private stuff, maybe you are even a little pissed. Well it runs both ways sweetie - so ask him first - OK? That's a girl - and you really are a love for doing this for him - hope he appreciates it.

Firstly you sound like a nice person for thinking of the gesture & being senseitive enough to think about whether you would be invading his private space
HOWEVER i m in the same situation with my gf & it does get a little annoying. I gave her the key to my flat & she wont come around unless i ve invited her. I gave the key because i trust her so dont tippy toe around his place to much he trusts you thats why you got the key he would love you to do that for him

If he gave u a key and told you to come anytime...I think it would be alright. I don't see how any boyfriend could get mad if their girlfriend cleaned up after him...unless he had something to hide...like a big box of porn in his closet or something.

If he were a steady boyfriend, m-a-y-b-e. But it sounds like he's a little too messy for you and you would rather take control and fix the rift instead of giving him the perogative to be who he is...dangerous. I just don't think that's a move in the right direction. Even if you get serious, do you want to be his 'mommy?' Been there, done that...dead end. But if you decide to do it, you can pick up a maid suit at any uniform shop.

No, I don't think it is such a good idea. I read in a ladies' magazine that girls should never clean up their boy friends' apartment.

When I can not find my stuff, I will be really mad.

Yeh... he gave you his key, that's like an invitation for you to come clean his place. BUT don't do it too often otherwise he'll take it for granted and you'll become obliged to do things for him.

I would say go for it...but it also depends on how well you really know him. If he has things you think he keeps from you then you might think twice..but if he has that baggage then well..its best you found out..so go for it...it could be the turning point you need.

I think he would be happy that you even cared how he felt. Plus he gave you the invitation to come in. So go for it!
