It is not expressly forbidden in the bible although (primarily catholic) church tradition sometimes forbids it.

The part of the bible that is most often sited in forbidding it is in the old testiment and has to do with a man who dies childless. So his brother's house is not wiped out, hebrew law at the time required his living brother to have sex with the dead brother's wife and give her a son to carry on the father's name.

Instead of doing his duty, the man has sex with the woman but "lets his seed fall to the ground". Some argue this means that masturbation or otherwise "letting your seed fall" is a sin. Most responsible theologians (mostly protestants) argue that this story has nothing to do with masturbation at all but rather with meeting your obligations as you agree to do them.

Without this one story the bible does not say one way or the other about masturbation and I am inclined to argue that if it isn't mentioned then it isn't important enough to forbid. Therefore it is NOT a sin.

Beware "implication". People arguing that the bible "implies" something have used that argument to justify among other things. The Crusades, The inquisition, Prohibition of interracial marriage, etc....

A better rule is "does the Bible say it or not?" In this instance it does not. If God was worried about you doing it He would have told you not to wouldn't he?

i do no longer think of that the actual act of masturbation is forbidden in all religions. With Christianity, it is not unavoidably the act, that's what is going alongside with it. Fantasizing or Lusting after somebody is the sin. interior the e book of Matthew, 5:28 Jesus says, (NASB:) "yet I say to you that all and sundry who seems at a woman with lust for her has already dedicated adultery along with her in his heart." So many times masturbation is finished on an identical time as viewing porn or imagining some variety of sexual fantasy with somebody, which the Bible says is incorrect. i think that in case you have been waiting to masturbate without thinking lustful concepts, you does no longer be breaking any regulations.

Christian, and heres my answer
The Bible never specifically mentions masturbation or states whether masturbation is a sin. There is no question, however, as to whether the actions that lead to masturbation are sinful. Masturbation is the end result of lustful thoughts, sexual stimulation, and/or pornographic images. It is these problems that need to be dealt with. If the sins of lust and pornography are forsaken and overcome - the problem of masturbation will become a non-issue.

The Bible tells us to avoid even the appearance of sexual immorality (Ephesians 5:3). I do not see how masturbating can pass that particular test. Sometimes a good test for whether something is a sin or not is whether you would be proud to tell others what you had just done. If it is something you would be embarrassed or ashamed about if others found out, it is very likely that it is a sin. Another good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity for His own good purposes. I do not think masturbation qualifies as something we can be "proud" of or can genuinely thank God for.

The Bible teaches us, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). If there is room for doubt as to whether it pleases God, then it is best to give it up. There is definitely room for doubt in regards to masturbation. "For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). I do not see how, according to the Bible, masturbation could be considered glorifying to God. Further, we need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. So, in light of these principles, I would definitely have to say that masturbation is a sin according to the Bible. I do not believe that masturbation is pleasing to God, avoids the appearance of immorality, or passes the test of God having ownership over our bodies.

I have no religion. I don't think there is anything wrong with masturbating. It's better to masterbate than to have sex. Is masterbating worst or burning someone's house down worst? As long as you're not hurting anyone, i dont see why masturbating should be a problem. Well, thats according to my beliefs.

No, God could care less if you masturbate or not.

I don't have a set religion, I guess the closest to my beliefs would be Agnostic.
