With "perfect" use it is 99.9% effective.

With typical use it is 97-98% effective.

I have taken it for 4.5 years and have used no back up method (except for the first few months and with antibiotics) and I have never gotten pregnant.

It is very good she takes it at the same time everyday. With new low dose pills that's very important. Not missing pills and taking them at the same time increases its effectiveness.

If you want to be doubly sure, use a condom or another method of BC with the pill. However, research has shown the pill is effective on its own.

I have been on it for many years, but when off it (and planning pregnancy) I was pregnant within a month or two, so I would say it is VERY effective.
