For centuries, public whipping was a common punishment for crime. Starting about the late 1800's, it was condemned as "barbaric" and replaced by imprisonment. The prisons, however, are overcrowded, are training grounds for criminals, and are places where inmates are assaulted and abused. Wouldn't the lash be more effective? Should a prisoner have the option to receive a public whipping in lieu of imprisonment or in exchange for a reduction in prison time?

It may have its place for certain crimes against persons or fixed property, and after a thoroughly allocuted plea of guilty. And then again with the application as the only penalty the first AND ONLY THE FIRST time we do this to someone: no confinement, no probation, no criminal record after the event (but only a police chief or a judge would be entitled to that info).

I wonder how the people who are so ready to have people whipped in public here felt about people playing at doing just that at last week's Folson Street Fair in San Francisco? I saw a lot of outrage on conservative sites such as Michelle Malkin - now I wonder if some folks just needed the question reframed :)

For some offenses, i could think of it may deter crimes like save lifting and robbery. different concepts are for non violent offenders to get the previous "bypass to conflict or bypass to penitentiary" i think of which will provide them the alternative of serving their united states of america and studying a ability jointly as interior the militia or doing the comparable volume of time in penitentiary. i understand that militia advocates wont like it although that's a call no longer an order to bypass into the army incredibly than penitentiary. a number of those adult males would bypass in and pass up the ladder with the aid of fact they have a comfortable job and something to watch for. I additionally think of that some prisons are to snug and those criminals do no longer strategies going returned for a 300 and sixty 5 days or 2. I say, bypass returned to chain gangs and breaking rocks. that would desire to stop repeat offenders

if so maybe there would be less crime but with all the rights criminal have it will never happen again. Just imagine an eye for an eye type punishment. That would be great! My ex beat me up and I was in the hospital for days and he received the expected slap on the wrist for it. Now if some guy lots bigger than him was beating on him and broke some bones in his face, do you think he'd ever hit me or anyone again? I think not!

The police are already beating on citizens all around the country. They tazer the citizens too. Just recently in WI , 6 citizens got gilled by another cop. They lie about evidence . Do you read newspapers ? Do you see television News ? U tube ?

police brutality / corruption is a huge problem . we can't continue to let them get away with it. the problem is growing.

have you considered forming your own local chapter / organization - Citizens Against Corrupt Cops ? CACC ?

Call your organization anything else that you like . We must get citizens working to find a solution to police .

I think a LOT of punishments and sentences (like death by firing squad) should be brought back. But there will always be people who want more "humane" ways to punish people.

Yes, it should be back, so people will take a lesson not to do this bad thing or crime.

No! Pain can be dealt with and solves nothing!

Chain gangs working in the hot sun...more betta! Long suffering! More time to think! "don't wanna be here no more!"
