I cook my butter beans just like I cook my wax beans or green string beans. We call them "Grandma Beans" because my grandmother used to cook them forever!

Just clean your beans and cut or snap your beans into pieces. Add some bacon fat and water and chopped onion to your pan of beans. Bring to a boil and then turn to simmer. Stir the beans a couple times and simmer until they fall apart.

YUM! Most veggies are good less cooked, but green beans, wax beans and butter beans have to be cooked to death to be Grandma's beans.

wash the beans in cold water and soak overnight. place in crock pot with a cup of celery and a cup of onion. add a quarter cup of chicken boullion and fill the crock pot to the top with water. let simmer for 5-6 hours and add water if they dry out any. when finished, add liquid smoke and a pinch of chili powder. best butter beans ever!
