After all, our parents didn't...

My thoughts is this: We should care about the enviorment because it will affect us our whole lives. By thinking as you are, then nothing in life will ever get done. For example, GLOBAL WARMING! if we don't do anything then will be the ones suffering, not our parents who will all be long gone.

If u don't care about the enviorment it will come back and hit u in the face!

Of course we should. I just attended a Nobel Laureate conference at Gustavus Adolphus College in St Peter Minnesota on the energy crisis facing this country and the world. (i.e Oil running out in 60 years business as usual.) Among many well versed, read, and very intelligent PHDs, Will Steger spoke as well. He is from Eely, MN (no you shouldn't know where that is). He traveled across Antarctica with a dog team and I believe it was five other men. This was in either '82 or '91, I can't remember but it's not important. They began their journey of 3,600 miles at the Larson ice shelf. There are three parts to this shelf, A, B, and C. Then the shelf was solid and could not be differentiated from the land...now...it's gone. Yeah...it broke off into the ocean. This "piece" of ice was the length of the state of Minnesota, and very close to as wide.

Global Warming is very real, and you can see the effects of it EXTREMELY clearly in both poles of the earth. Look it up. There's a myriad of information and pictures all over the internet.

Most people don't understand what the problem with the ice melting is however. I will attempt to explain:
The permanent ice, such as Larson Ice Shelf was, are covered in snow, which is white (duh) and reflects sunlight thus the earth does not absorb warmth in that area.
When large amounts of permanent ice melt, they open up large parts of the ocean. Water is notorious for absorbing incredibly large amounts of heat. SO...the more ice melts, the more ocean is revealed, the more sun rays are absorbed, the warmer the earth gets THUS melting MORE ice. The cycle goes on and on. We contribute to this by releasing more and more CO2 into the atmosphere. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, which means it traps heat inside the atmosphere. There are so many parts per million (ppm) of CO2 in the atmosphere right now, that more heat is being trapped in than can be released.

It is true as was mentioned above, that the earth is in a cycle, and we are due for an ice age pretty soon here, but do we REALLY want it to be in the next hundred years? No, and it shouldn't be. The truth is humans have sped up this process/cycle. We're causing the inevitable to happen WAY before it's time, and we're hurting ourselves and many other species at the same time. (check out a recent news article on Polar Bears) It is projected that 2/3 of the population willl be gone by 2025. If that's not sad!

The environment effects us directly. If we are not taking care of our environment how can we think that we will get clean and healthy air to breath, no foul smell, Healthy crops and fruits, not for ourselves but also for the next generation to come up.

Every thing in this universe needs environment. Not only human being but the animals, birds, trees also. You can experince the same in your nearby area. Plant a sapling in the garden and regularly care for that you will certainly observe a tree coming up. On the other hand plant another sapling on the side of road which should face pollution of vehicles and danger from stray animals. You will feel the difference yourself.

These saplings can be compared with our environment. The amount we will care for the environment, the environment will take care of us in manyfolds.

We give ourselves way too much credit by blaming this recent global warming trend on our forefathers. I stress "trend" because if you did your homework (maybe most of you would spell better too), you would find this trend is one of many our Earth goes through. Fight poverty, war, or scream for universal healthcare (a.k.a. socialism)...all things that you can control as an informed voter. Should you recycle, reuse, etc...of course you should. It makes good business sense and it keeps the park clean. Don't do it because Al Gore's movie opened up your eyes to the so called truth. Seek your own truth...read and research and reach your own conclusions. Finally, for those of you still blaming your grandparents for Global Warming, consider this: Mean global temperature appears to have warmed by about one degree Fahrenheit during the 20th Century. About half that warming occurred prior to 1940, while most of the century’s manmade greenhouse gas emissions occurred after 1940. The global cooling that occurred from 1940 to 1970 – which led some worriers to sound alarms during the mid-1970s about a looming ice age – actually occurred simultaneously with increasing manmade greenhouse gas emissions.

Maybe your parents didn't.

I worry, too, but I make sure I'm doing something instead of sitting on my thumbs. Together the whole family has logged almost 1,500 volunteer hours to date. There's a lot going on out there I can't do anything about, but I do what I can when I can do it.

Worry? No..I'm not about to go to a horse and buggy to fight global warming which may or may not be man-made.

Take reasonable steps to protect/preserve it? Sure. Recycling, using minimal energy, CFL bulbs, encouraging switches to renewable energy (solar/wind/nuclear) are good things.

If our parents had, we wouldn't be in as big of a mess as we are now. If we don't, our kids will have an even bigger mess and our grandkids will be in real trouble.
