Visine is not a good drop to use - it has too many preservatives in them. Its made to constict the blood vessels in your eyes but its only temporary and when it wears off they are worse than before. Is the redness caused by allergies or dry eye? A couple of our favorite are Refresh Tears, Optive, and Systane. If its possibly allergies then you could try Zaditor - its and OTC brand that used to be prescription only. If it continues I would recommend that you consult your optometrist for treatment options. Hope this helps!!

Visine contains a decongestant which should not be used by people with some health conditions (warning on bottle). Using a decongestant repeatedly will result in rebound congestion: your eyes will become red because you stopped using Visine, not due to allergies. But also Visine is not very good as a treatment for allergies. Itching, redness etc from allergies can be much better controlled with oral antihistamines or prescription eye drops. See your family doctor or eye doctor for advice and effective treatment of eye allergy.

Every eye care professional I've used has said Visine is an especially bad brand of eye drops and can permanently damage your eyes if you use it too much. I don't really know the reason for it but they said it has a chemical in it that's bad for the eyes.

It shouldn't take long at all.
Only a couple of minutes at most before you notice some improvement.
If you don't notice any improvement, maybe you should consider seeing someone to get more appropriate relief.

Good luck!

I think it depends on how red your eyes are. I use them regularly.
