I bought some of that cookie dough that you break apart and bake and want to make them, problem is the only thing I have that looks like a cookie sheet is the metal cover of a cake pan, can I use that or is it not oven proof?

I don't think it is a stupid Q at all and I would say that it probably isn't a good idea to use it. Some reasons why: 1) it could start to burn & set off your fire alarms with dark smoke, 2) it would probably heat too hot & ruin the cookies, 3) the cookies would absorb the taste of the metal sheet cover. Now, do you have a glass pie plate or a corning ware pan that you could use instead? Do you have a clay Pizza plate that people put into their ovens to cook on? Just make sure that you leave room for the cookies to expand...it will just take you longer without a cookie sheet. Now, how about just asking someone if you could borrow theirs instead? Great way to meet your nieghbors/apt. tenants. Guard Dog

No, don't use the lid. You can use a cake pan, however. Line it with parchment paper or foil. If the cookies need to be on a greased pan, use cooking spray. You won't be able to make as many at a time, but they will bake in a cake pan.

Use foil if you have to. If that cake pan cover has a plastic handle it could melt or just stink while cooking but cookies should take that long to get done.

If it's metal, it should be oven proof. But if you have the cover, maybe you have the pan. That would work also.
