Mexicans ARE Hispanic...
And, Only Just A Few Hispanic countries know what a tortilla is... Mexico is one of them.
Most Hispanic countries eat their own bakery-fresh "bread".
And, guess what a "tortilla" means in most Hispanic countries? It means "a pie made out of thick slides of potatoes, eggs, and condiments". Something like a quiche but with potatoes.
-(Every-Single-Country has their own culture. It's like saying that England's and Australia's drink is Root Beer, and just because Americans do drink it and know what it is...Neither right or fair, isn't it?)-

CORN TORTILLAS
Makes 12 (6") tortillas or 24 (4") tortillas
1 1/2 lbs fresh masa or 2 c masa harina
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 c warm water
If you are using masa harina, stir the water into the dough and mix well. Cover and let sit for 30 minutes. To make 6" tortillas, divide the fresh masa or the dough made from masa harina into 12 equal sections and roll into 12 balls. If you want to pat the tortillas out by hand, wet your hands slightly, then pat each ball between palms and fingers, moving it gradually in a circular motion until it reaches about 6" in diameter. If you are pressing the tortillas, cut out 24 pieces of waxed paper or plastic wrap about 7" square. Place one piece of paper or wrap on the bottom section of a tortilla press or other smooth surface, such as a table or a pastry board. Place a ball of dough in the center of the paper or wrap and cover with another paper or wrap; press with the top half of the tortilla press or with a flat board or flat bottom of a large saucepan. The tortilla should measure 6". Peel off the top piece of paper and set the tortilla aside. Press 11 more, stacking them as they are pressed. To cook, heat a lightly greased cast-iron griddle or skillet over medium heat. Place the tortilla on the palm of one hand and peel off the paper. Place the tortilla on the hot griddle and cook until it begins to firm, then turn over with a spatula and cook until lightly toasted - some dark spots will appear. Turn once more, and cook until lightly toasted on the second side. It should puff up slightly; if it does not, the heat is probably too high or too low and should be adjusted for cooking the remaining tortillas. Remove and keep warm in a basket lined with a cloth napkin, stacking them as you make them. If you plan to fill them, use the spotted side as the outside of the tortilla - it is slightly firmer than the more unblemished side.
FLOUR TORTILLA
Makes 12 (8") tortillas
3 3/4 c all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c lard or shortening
3/4 to 1 c lukewarm water
Sift the flour and salt together. Cut in the lard or shortening into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter or work it in with your fingers. With a fork, stir in enough water to form a sticky mass. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Divide the dough into 2 equal pieces and form each into a ball. Cover the balls of dough with a moist cloth or saran and let sit at room temperature 1 hour. With rolling pin, roll out each ball into a very thin circle on a floured board (the tortillas will shrink slightly as they cook). Cook on a lightly greased griddle or in a lightly greased skillet over medium heat until browned on the bottom, then turn and brown lightly on the other side. Stack the tortillas in a basket lined with a cloth, keeping them well covered, and serve hot.

Walmart carries a great mix in a green bag. You will find it in the baking section. Just follow the directions, its really easy! I think the only thing that needs to be added is water. Good luck.

there is a mix or two at walmart where u add water and mix into a dough and then roll out with a rolling pin and then cook on a griddle. they r quite easy to make but take time at first. i used to make them from scratch, but if you add to much of this and not enough that they sometimes taste funky
