I was wondering how many hours a week can i work without having it to affect the amount of money financial aid gives me. My parents dont make that much. They make about 30k together and i have a little brother and a little sister as dependents. So my family size is 5 and parents make about 30k. Is it even possible for me to work part time and not have it effect the amount the government pays me??

Good question and a very difficult one to answer. It actually does not vary by state...it actually is federal. Unfortunately, there is a calculation that determines how much federal grants you are eligible for, which is what it sounds to me like you are asking. There are many factors that calculate into how much you may qualify for in grants. The questions that the fafsa asks are what they use to calculate this number. However, you should go and speak with the financial aid counselor that assisted you initially. They have your specific numbers and can tell you a lot better than anyone can here. Every student's situation is different.

I have been in this industry for 7 years now in financial aid and would have to look at your numbers you already submitted to answer....your best bet is to speak with financial aid. It is their job to answer your questions and make sure that you are clear on the answer.

talk to your financial aid counselor because it varies per state. But you might want to consider Federal work study. You work a job an the federal government pays your wages. It's still consider financial aid from the federal government.

As long as she doesn't make too much money, it won't affect her. The exact amount depends on her family's income, so it is possible for the part time job to affect her financial aid but it all depends.
