If I wanted to sink a boat, which would be better, a slower pistol or high velocityrifle? It should seem obvious, but I'm just asking because I've heard the harder you hit water the more it resists, and I was wondering if the same was true for bullets! Thanks!

As Mythbusters have shown, any bullet above small calibers like .22 will shatter on impact with water, even if they are full-metal jacket. Even the .22 though was only lethal to about 2 feet of depth, which would likely do nothing to a boat.

You'd need either something large like a cannonball, or something with an active propusion cyctem, like a torpedo.

The 16 inch gun is the most effective gun when it comes to sinking boats.

well, for bullets, a 50 caliber round shattered before even getting about 2 ft in the water...

a 9 mm round went father, but didnt have as much velocity...

Neither one.......Are you serious? Who in their right mind would try to "SINK" a boat with either one? You might put some holes and cause some leaks but it hardly would it be a way to sink anything.

well, according to history, pirates used large slower moving canon balls to hole a ship. So, I'd say large calibur wins.
