Can someone explain, how could this have happened: I received a ticket by mail. It said I stopped at the red curb to let out a passenger. I know for sure at that time on that day I was home, my car was on the parking lot . 100% sure!!! Nobody else drives my car. The plates number and the description matches. I went to the police department, they wouldn't listen. Now it's not even about the money, I just want to know how could my car be seen somewhere where it wasn't?

This happened years ago to my uncle and my dad.. They both at different times and years, got tickets in the mail.. My dad's said he was parked in Newark on such and such a day and time and year. He had never been in that city! Although we do live in NJ. The officer made a mistake on the license # when he wrote the ticket. My dad's vehicle did not even match the year, color or make of the car the ticket was written for. He called Newark Police Dept. then the DMV in NJ and they finally recinded the ticket and conceded it must have been a mistake. Same for my uncle.. It only takes a # or a letter off for the computer to spit out a ticket to you.. I think you can get it dismissed.. Good Luck..

Did someone else drive your car? Many cities have cameras that if you run a light or do little misdemeanors, they will send you a ticket through the mail. If I were you, I would go to the first court date and plead not guilty. They will set you up for a trial. You do not have to hire a attorney. Represent yourself and if you have documents, witness, or anything else that will get you off bring them. You will go against the prosecutor. Don't be intimidated. I did it and won!!! The Judge won't give the decision right then, he will let you know be mail. Good Luck, and don't waste money on attorney's on something like this. Best of Luck!!!

In all likelihood the officer wrote down the wrong plate number, and it happened to be a car of the same description. Request a hearing.

At your initial appearance on the charge plead not guilty. You will be notified of your trial date. Go to trial and argue your case. You just have to prove you were not where they said you were. Witnesses, business or traffic cameras, etc Good Luck.

Sounds like the officer may have copied the plate down wrong. Mistakes happen and remember you have to be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
