FRIENDS: I didn't intend to provoke such defensiveness. My hope was to name the victims, not suggest EVERY religion promotes prejudicial feelings. Imagine if Black people in 1955 Alabama talked about prejudice encouraged by White churches, and the only response from the churches was, "Not at MY church!" The reality is that there are many groups that are kept subjugated due to the power imbalance promoted in a variety of religions. So NAME the religion you refer to, and go on to recognize that organized religion has victims.

If you're not a part of the solution, perhaps you might be helping to maintain the problem.

Well, it does KINDA depend on WHAT organized religion you are talking about but in general, the religions that are in force and control TODAY all tend to discriminate against:

Homosexuals,

women,

people of a different color then the majority of the religion,

women,

anyone that believes ANYTHING different then the majority of the religion,

women,

people that believe in something SIMILAR to their religion yet not EXACTLY like their religion,

women,

Scientists,

The list goes on and on and on and on...

It is a sad and demoralizing thing to truly comprehend that all of these groups are supposedly founded on "Love" and "Compassion" yet all totally degrade into ignorance, power grabbing, money grabbing, houses of ill repute...

A VERY sad thing…

The question is sortof an unfair generalization. Is there a particular organized religion that you have in mind?

I know of a unitarian church that has members who are atheists, buddhists, christians, etc. Do you suspect there is discrimination at churches like this?

Here's a more interesting spin on your questions: is YOUR question really doing anything to stop or otherwise prevent discrimination, or are you just looking to antagonize people?

They do discriminate, I'm sure all do to some extent. For me it was that I was biracial. I got treated different I hated going to church I felt so left out and I was supposedly in the house of GOD. But if your name wasn't so in so you were nothing. and if I was liked it was pity it seemed. You know they even confronted my mother when she was pregnant with me and mentioned about getting rid of me! She was single too and having a Bi racial baby! OMG! It's a SIN! BAH! God knows we are not perfect we are not supposed to be! So that was Very christian indeed. Why do people try to more holy than they are. We are human WE CAN'T. oops sorry about the caps there heh..

Advocating discrimination is a violation of several laws, Constitutional Amendments and PResidential Edicts.

To answer your question directly, PETA, they encourage discrimination againt people who wear fur coats and encourage destruction of private property. They are also adminadately opposed to Scientific Reserach with animals and destroy labs.

PETA is practically a Terrorist organization.

Baritone,
In our country this is against the law and organized or not religion or religious groups should know better than such a thing. Have a great week.
Thanks,

Atheists (by nearly any theistic faith), homosexuals (almost universally), Muslims (that is, if the organized religion doing the discriminating is Christianity), women's reproductive rights (mainly Western monotheistic religions)...

But I couldn't say that ALL organized religions discriminate in the same way or at all.

It's so strange when people say "homosexuals have the same right as everyone else: to marry someone of the opposite sex". That's sort of like saying "black people have the same right as everyone else: to marry someone of the same race".

And it's also very strange when they don't seem to realize that marriage has evolved profoundly over the years. Just because "opposite sex" is the longest held marital tradition doesn't mean it's fair.

each faith has extremes. There are communities (Christian identity, conflict, KKK) that use Christian symbolism and faith to justify their racism. There are Muslims that want anybody not a Muslim lifeless. There are sturdy Christians and Muslims that are actually not racists. My faith has a recognition for being crammed with white supremacists. Its' not genuine, there are liberals, conservatives, anarchists and democrats. we've Universalists that say anybody and each deity welcome and we've Folkish kinds that have faith you may look to your ethnic roots earlier determining a faith and those of Northern ecu descent would be extra attracted to Heathenism than different ethnic communities. Then there are the Neo-Nazis that have stolen our symbols and deities and declare superiority over every person else. they don't look to be valid heathens because of the fact hatred comes first of their lives and that may not heathenism. Extremes, like countless faith.

I suppose it would depend on which organized religion you're talking about and what your definition of discrimination is. My church doesn't discriminate against anybody, but we also don't support gay marriage. Gay people have the same right as everyone else to marry someone of the opposite sex, in fact two people of the same sex cannot be married even if the law says they can because marriage is for a man and woman. Legalizing gay marriage is like legalizing pink flying unicorns.

i think you need to be more specific about which religious groups you are talking about.

there are PLENTY out there that are open and affirming to all people in all walks of life.

and plenty that discriminate against other organized religions, for that matter.
